Supporting Kayla during her time of need.
Canterbury
Hi all, I am Kayla's Mum, Lynley, and here is her story.
I was diagnosed with Acute promyelocytic leukemia in June 2023. i was hospitalised for 3 weeks and off work for 2 months. While this is treatable and has a 90% success rate the treatment plan is long and intensive .
The cancer moved fast the onset was 10 days so i was not prepared for the significant change or support plan.
I have had to return to work full time. I have no other option to cover my cost of living as I live alone and in a different city to all my immediate family.
Working full time and undergoing chemo has been incredibly difficult and draining both mentally and physically. Some weeks I am in hospital Monday-Friday so I have to take my laptop in with me and work while having my treatment.
There are times when I am so sick I have to take time off work but now I have no leave left and still have months of treatment ahead of me. I recently had to work through two infections as I did not have the funds to take time off to rest.
Going forward I am worried about how I will support myself financially and also take time off work as the fatigue and side effects are made worse by me trying to work through the treatment and not getting the rest i need.
Any contribution would help with allowing me to take unpaid time off work to rest when I am sick and getting treatment while also being able to afford to pay my expenses. I would be incredibly grateful for any help.
I am Kayla's mum.

Thank you all who have donated to Kayla. The goal we had set for Kayla has be raised. Kayla will hopefully be finished with her treatment with the next month and she is looking forward to the next chapter of her life.
