Help Support Rilee Wright’s Battle with AML Leukemia

  • Givealittle extension

      13 October 2025

Whilst Rilee is " kicking cancers Butt" We’ve decided to extend this Givealittle page to allow more time for support to come in. There has been so much kindness and generosity already and Beth, Jay, Rilee and Carter are incredibly grateful. Extending this page will allow Beth and Jay to continue providing Rilee with the care and support that she needs in Auckland and after they have returned home, whenever that may be.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, or offered support — it truly means the world. 💜

Monday last week, we celebrated a massive milestone, Rilee was discharged from the ward and officially became an outpatient 🥳

It is so good to be out in the fresh air after spending most of the year in isolation

We are still spending a lot of our time administering medication and visiting starship so they can keep a close eye on Rilees' progress. Slow steps but big improvement each week

Big thank you to Nangel and the aunty's who have shouldered so much and meant that Carter has been able to be here with us this year.

He has thrived amongst the chaos and is so happy to have his buddy back ✨️

  • Rilee Update ❤️

      9 September 2025

Day 6 Post Allogenic Stem Cell Transplant

Last Wednesday Rilee's Donated stem cells flew in with a legend from NZ Blood and were infused via her Central line(Similar to a blood transfusion) over the next 4 hours.

Recovery at this stage is very intense as her body adjusts and waits for the new donor cells to start working (Engraftment, usually around 2–4 weeks) and the full effects of her preconditioning treatment/medication

Rilee is on strong pain relief, has an NG tube and central line for medicines, blood tests and Infusions to help support her body through this.

Unfortunately today she also needed a cannula line. Another needle... it didnt go down so well. Rilee had a CT scan of her chest and stomach, just to make sure there are no infections or fluid, the medical team are happy with the scans which is a massive relief. She started on oxygen last night and has been battling fevers the past few days, but apparently, all to be expected at this stage in Transplant.

This period is one of the hardest as her immune system is at its weakest, making her more vulnerable to infection and complications while her new immune system begins to grow. It's been rough but the strength she continues to show every hour is extremely humbling... and heart breaking to watch.

Thank you to everyone who is behind our Family and Rilee, the past 12 months have been hideous.

    The wright's ❤️

Am thinking of you Rilee and family! My brother MAC had a stem cell/ bone marrow transplant in March last year. My sister and I took turns at travelling to Wellington’s Haematology ward to support him on his journey. His donor was his son. Good news … he is in full remission. I’m sharing this as I know that success stories are encouraging.

Arohanui to you all - Rilee … you are a superhero.

I was teaching in Mr Bax’s room yesterday.

Love - Mrs F (Kathy Ferguson)

We are all trying to settle in to Starship life and re-orientate. Rilee has started her pre transplant medicine on Sunday the 24th. This will wipe out Rilees bone marrow, cancer cells and immune system completely ready for the bone marrow transplant next Wednesday the 3rd of Sept.

Everything is tracking along how its meant to so far but we have a massive journey ahead of ourself.

The next 6-8 weeks will be isolated in Rilees room in starship looking out at the sky tower then a couple more months in Auckland as out patients with daily treatments.

Thank you to all our supporters we can feel the love from all around the country ❤️

  • Team Rilee Update 29/7/25

      29 July 2025

Well things havent seemed to slow down. Rilee has almost almost finished her 3rd round of Chemo, She had to fight a few bugs but after celebrating her 100 days overnight in hospital with cupcakes and baking a cake. Rilee improved dramatically.

She is back up on her feet and has been discharged from the ward yesterday!!. She is loving being out of her isolated room and we are all being well looked after by Ronald McDonald House Christchurch

With everything changing daily(sometimes hourly) we are not sure what the exact plan looks like moving forward. Rilee is still going up to CHOC ward as an outpatient daily and has another bone marrow biopsy to help get all the tests finished for Auckland. But should be finished with her Christchurch treatment by this weekend

Thank you everyone for the support, especially when some people at home are doing it so tough with the devastating floods. Your donations and support have meant such a difference to our lives to help with all the extra expenses we were never prepared for on the journey.

Feels surreal to be almost finished treatment in Christchurch, its been a tornado that passed in a blink of an eye. Rilee is super motivated to get up to Auckand to try be home for Christmas ✨️

    Jay & Beth

There has been some ups and down as always but shes being so strong and getting through it all with determination to have some time at Nelson before the last big treatment.

We have a been given a date for the end of August to go up to Auckland for Rilees bone marrow transplant which will be a 4 month stretch up there.

We really appreciate the messages of support and help we have received, The gratitude is huge.

  • Latest update on Rilee Roo

      16 June 2025

It has been a big few weeks lately, Rilee has been down in high care with an infection and pneumonia (ontop of everything else she is going through) but she powered through and has recovered to get her spark and her smile back.

She currently has 10days left of this cycle of chemo, then will go through a couple tests before doing one more round of chemo in Christchurch for the next 6-8 weeks.

While we are here, before we travel to Auckland, Starship are getting everything ready as we have found a donor for Rilee's Bone Marrow Transplant!!

It will mean 3-4 months in Auckland but hopefully will be the final big treatment for Rilee's recovery.

Thank you to everyone throughout the country sending their love prayers and strength ✨️

    The Wright's ❤️

  • Chemo round 2

      30 May 2025

    Hey team quick update.

Rilees chemo has done a great job and squashed all her white blood cells which means she has no immune system, unfortunately this has allowed Rilee to get an infection which is rocking her body.

We are back down in the high care ward so she can have more intensive care and lots more tests and scans.

She still has a smile on her face even while she is fighting hard

    Rilee’s AML Journey Update

Rilee has completed her first cycle of chemotherapy and is in good spirits, especially enjoying the beautiful cards and crafts from friends, thank you all!

Once her counts improve, she will have a bone marrow test and another lumbar puncture. If everything goes to plan, Rilee will have one more round of chemo in Christchurch before heading to Auckland for 3–4 months for a bone marrow transplant.

We are so grateful for the ongoing love and support it means the world 💛

    Hey everyone.

Rilee Carter Beth and I would like to thank you all for the amazing support. We feel completely overwhelmed by the love and generosity.

We wanted to give an update on how Rilee is doing.

We are at day 18 of treatment. Rilee has been through some massive milestones already and fully prepared to 'Smash it'. She is currently in the CHOC ward in Christchurch hospital and is nearing the end of her first cycle of chemotherapy.

The pencil plan ahead is for another round or 2 of chemo in Christchurch before we fly to Auckland for more treatments

Rilee is taking everything that is thrown at her with a smile on her face and a cheeky joke
