Elaine Simons started Kidney Kids in 1990 as a parent support group. Her oldest daughter Jennifer was diagnosed with chronic renal failure at birth and her second child Rebecca was diagnosed with the same condition. Elaine also supports 3 young adults who have neurological disabilities, she volunteers at RDA once a week and also takes 2 of the young adults to Arts for Health every Tuesday. Elaine also received a Queen Service Medal in 2006 for her achievements and service to the community
Elaine was involved in a serious Car Accident on the 29th of August 2025. She has a fractured Sternum which also now has a hematoma underneath, her C3 and C4 Vertebrae have shifted opposite ways if she moves the wrong way she can become paralyzed, also with the surgery there is still that risk of her becoming paralyzed. They are also discovering more injures as she gets more scans.

Update Two 25 September 2025
Update: Elaine suffered a fractured eye socket in her crash and the symptoms didn’t show up straight away as we were finding out more injuries each day because of this she has lost mostly all the sight in her right eye and had to have 3 eye surgeries tho they were unsuccessful. She had a massive bleed behind her right eye. They have stitched her right eye down and hopefully it will get better. The drs have said it’s mostly going to be permanent damage. She also had a Xray of her neck a couple days ago and there has been no change with her neck so the surgeons are going to see have a talk and get back to Elaine to see if surgery is on the cards as it’s not healing even with the neck collar on. We are still waiting to see about her sternum and see how that is healing. Thanks for all the support we really appreciate it
