Jhalena has relapsed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and faces a long, intense treatment journey.

Kia Ora e te iwi,
After 14 months of being in remission & just gaining her grasp back on her sense of freedom & normal teenage life, our Jhalena has relapsed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). When AML relapses, it often returns more aggressively and requires treatment that is much more demanding. This includes procedures such as a bone marrow transplant in order to give the best chance of recovery. Jhalena turns 17 next month; a time that should be filled with fun, friends, and milestones… Instead, she’s now facing the fight of her life for a second time.
While the road ahead is going to be emotionally, mentally & physically exhausting, there is hope. With extensive/ expert care, the right treatment plan, and the love and support of whānau, friends, and wider community, many young people can and do make it through. ❤️
Jhalena and her mum (Renee), will be staying at Starship Hospital for a minimum of six months, where Jhalena will undergo intensive treatment. All funds raised will go towards supporting Jhalena and her whānau through the second dose of this challenging journey; helping to ease the financial stress so they can focus on her healing.
Your love, prayers, and koha mean the absolute world to us.
Ngā mihi nui,
Lafaiki whānau
I am Jhalenas aunty.
If the full target isn’t met, every dollar will still go toward supporting Jhalena and her whānau through this time, ensuring they have what they need during her treatment and recovery.
