Help Tawhai to achieve his bucket list with us, creating valuable memories for our children to cherish
Greymouth, West Coast
In 2019 my husband was in the prime of his career, working as a very successful and skilled sheep Shearer, until one day he suddenly collapsed which created a ripple of further collapses. After multiple tests and procedures he was diagnosed with an incurable cancer called Multiple myeloma. This came as a huge shock to our whānau as he was only 30 years old at the time.
Multiple myeloma is a rare blood cancer that originates from malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow. Healthy plasma cells produce antibodies to fight infection, but cancerous myeloma cells multiply uncontrollably and produce abnormal, non-functional antibodies called M proteins. These M proteins can cause organ damage throughout the body, particularly affecting the bones and kidneys.
Since diagnosis Tawhai has had several rounds of chemotherapy and 2 stem cell transplants with 2 relapses. Recently he suffered a severely broken arm due to the cancer creating lesions in his upper right arm, causing him to have surgery. Our most recent talk with his haemotologist has come with disheartening news, the treatment he is currently on ( lenolidomide) is not working, and he is being changed to the only other funded treatment ( pomalidomide). This givealittle page has been created to help Tawhai achieve his bucket list, to make core memories with whānau particularly myself and our 4 children 16,11,10&9.
Tawhai is the most loving dad and partner and our hearts are breaking knowing we have little time left with him.
My beautiful husband, and best friend. The best dad to our babies, a loved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
The money will be spent on fulfilling a bucket list Tawhai has written, and to help with the financial burdens of only having one income in a 6 person whānau. Memories are important more now than ever. It will also go towards a vowel renewal ceremony.
01/09 Updated use of funds: assist with relocating our family to Australia to trial one new treatment there

Doing everything we can! 3 February 2026
We have taken the last opportunity we have been given with both hands, and sadly have had to leave the country, leave our babies and life behind. Tawhai and I are together and our tamariki have stayed home. It is so very hard to be split up, but reality is this is the last chance we may have to try and make a difference. Our tamariki know it wont be forever, and we will do our best to be home as soon as we can.
As we come into the last week of our give a little, we want to say a last big THANK-YOU to everyone who has helped get us here today. We spent our 7th wedding anniversary in hospital together yesterday ( our 4th all together in hospital) and there is no where else id rather be!
We've got this! And I am not ready to stop fighting for my husbands life!
Please if you are able to share our page one last time, we would truly appreciate it! We are away for a long haul with all the responsibilities still to be taken care of back home, every single dollar helps!
Keep us in your prayers! We still have a lot to come up against, but we are positive it will all be for the best!
Ngā mihi
