Tessie had her head, chest, and abdominal CT last week. This was to determine the location of the tumours and extent of vascular invasion, important for surgical planning. They looked for the presence of a pituitary lesion and evidence of distant metastatic disease, of which they found neither. This makes her a good surgical candidate.
The CT showed that Tessie does not have two adrenal gland tumours like we originally thought. She has a mass from her left adrenal gland, and the mass on the right is from her liver.
What this means
Tessie doesn’t need both adrenal glands removed, she will get to keep the right one. This is good because she won’t need to be on glucocorticoid supplementation for life. Regarding Tessie's prognosis, we won't know until we do histopathology on the tumour tissue.
Tessie’s internal medicine specialist is going to figure out what else we need to do before referring us to a surgeon. He also mentioned that this procedure will probably be around $8,000 - $10,000 NZD, much less than what we thought.
I've attached the summary from the internal medicine specialist for anyone that's curious.
