Help the 19th Battalion & Armoured Regiment Memorial Guardians continue to maintain their living memorial and hold ANZAC celebrations.
Christchurch, Canterbury
The 19th Battalion & Armoured Regiment (SI Branch) established a living Memorial at Victoria Park on the Christchurch Port Hills in 1949 when the Christchurch City Council made this area available to the Association. In the intervening years, the wild scrub covered, and rock strewn hillside was tamed to form grassy slopes by the Veterans.
The planting and the majority of building and landscaping was carried out by veterans from the South Island branch. Members met regularly over the years to maintain the beauty and the peace of this place. Each Anzac Day their families, friends & members of the general public meet here to honour the fallen.
Due to the aging and passing of the veterans a need was seen for the next generation to continue their work. A group of volunteer family & friends formed the 19th Battalion & Armoured Regiment Memorial Guardians Committee. This non-funded & not-for-profit group has now taken over the responsibility of maintenance of the Memorial and organising ANZAC Day celebrations, which are held at the Victoria Park Memorial every year and attract several hundred people.
To cover costs to hold the annual ANZAC day celebration at the memorial - including wreaths, hire of a PA system, producing programmes and post commemoration refreshments for attendees.
