Let's help Stacy and Bex with financial support during Stacy's recovery from Brain Surgery.
Ngātīmoti, Tasman
Two years ago Bex had an allergic reaction to a medication and was left unable to walk for several months, with much of that spent in the hospital and while all that was going on, life didn't stop for the family.
Stacy is the most amazing husband to Bex and father to his three daughters, cooking, shopping, fixing things around the place and still working a full time job. It was an incredibly stressful time for them, and after a few months back at home, Bex was finally able to walk again. Her health still hasn't been great (has a current torn rotator cuff) and does not have the capacity to work on top of taking care of the kids.
At the start of this year, we started to notice that Stacy wasn't himself, he started to have headaches and slowly lost his ability to read/write/remember things over the last few months.
Unfortunately a scan found a 5cm by 2cm Tumor in his brain. This is the last thing this family needs right now, no one needs this kind of diagnosis but for a family that has already been through so much this is devastating. His surgery date was the 7th of May and they did a great job however Stacy won't be allowed to drive for 6 months while he goes through his rehabilitation.
Bex and Stacy are very positive, have faith in GOD and many loved ones around them, we are all praying for a fast and full recovery. However with Stacy being the one who financially supports the family they are likely to experience financial challenges over the coming year at least.
Close friend & support person for the family.
Living costs, extra travel, extra medical bills etc while Stacy is unable to work.
Results and update 14 July 2025
Here are the results. The tumor is called an Astrocytoma, and is classed as a grade four brain cancer. It's very aggressive and fast growing.
They were not able to get all of the tumor out without causing damage to his sight and speech, plus there are loads of micro pieces in there that they couldn't get.
Since then, he started some complimentary medicine, changed his diet, incorporated some fasting and even adopted a puppy (Missy).
All in all besides feeling tired and a bit rundown we were doing really well, doing lots of praying and having faith is what has been getting us through.
We finally got an appt in Christchurch for an MRI and pre Radiation check up/preparation on the 26th June, arriving back to Motueka during the recent flood, had to stay with some friends overnight as our place like many others was without power and lacking accessibility, however not damaged thankfully.
Went off to Hanmer for a family holiday as Stacy was feeling quite well at the time and we wanted to create more memories during those times. While we were down there we received the results of the MRI.
Unfortunately it's bad news again, the tumor grew back to approx 7cm by 4cm and needed another urgent operation before starting radiation. So it was back up to Wellington where they were able to take out 95% of it this time. He's been back at home for a few days, the recovery is harder this time which is to be expected. Waiting on Radiation Appt in Christchurch in the next 2 weeks.
