Help the UC BIOMED Club attend the Heart Hackathon Final in Japan.
Christchurch, Canterbury
This year the University of Canterbury Biomedical Engineering Club (UC BIOMED club) Heart Hackathon team consisting of 15 engineering students have successfully developed a total artificial heart for the prestigious international competition - Heart Hackathon. Among the team members are Cameron Reburn, Tharusha Perera, and Matthew McIvor, who are final-year mechatronics students completing this as their Final Year Project. The project has been led by Jayden Hunt, the club president and a final-year student in physics and computer science.
We are thrilled to share that UC BIOMED has been officially invited to the grand final of the Heart Hackathon, which will be held on November 12th in Japan. This is a significant achievement, and to ensure we make the most of this opportunity, we would like to send the four team leaders to the event.
Last year, we faced a challenge when we were invited to the final in Dallas, Texas but were unable to attend due to insufficient funding. We were the only team unable to participate, and we are eager to avoid a repeat situation this year. With other teams sending 5-6 representatives, it is crucial for us to have a strong presence at the final.
We have already secured funding for designing and prototyping from the University of Canterbury. This additional support would enable us to represent the University of Canterbury and New Zealand effectively on a global stage.
The money will be spent on flights to and accommodation in Utsunomiya, Japan. To attend the ISMCS Conference where the Heart hackathon final will take place.
