I would like to help raised funds to reduce the financial burden of legal fees so the family can concentrate on the fight.
Canterbury
On the 1 February 2019 the Christchurch City council impounded this dog, Soula, following an incident on 29 January 2019. The owner and family, has been trying for 18 months with legal help to fight to bring their dog, Soula, home.
The first bill lawyer bill of $10,500 has arrived and we would like to help reduce the financial burden on Kathryn and her family. Kathryn decided she would fight for Soula and has not given up despite all the hurdles. There has been a couple of court appearances, to argue the right to be heard, despite no charges against the family as their dog was not with them at the time but walked by a friend.
Soula was being walked by a family friend when he, and their other dog Jack were left unattended, restrained for a couple of minutes. A mother and her child approached the dogs and with no where to go, Soula felt trapped. Unfortunately he snapped at the wee toddler and any snap, bite or injury is classed as 'causing injury' and involves the dog being impounded and goes to court.
At the end of it all, we love this dog so much, and we just want him home, whether it be on strict rules of him not leaving our property ever, unless for a vet appointment and with a muzzle. We dont know if we will win but we have to try. Soula was restrained by the leash, and the parent had been told NOT to take her child near the dogs (Jack, who has since passed away and Soula) as Soula is nervous/scared of children. Sadly, the mother did not listen and the worst happened. Dog Control has impounded Soula with the purpose of a court order for him to be 'destroyed', or otherwise known more kindly as put to sleep as he is considered a threat to public safety.
We, however, are trying our hardest to get Soula returned with a reclassification as him being a menancing/dangerous/or aggressive dog, and only ever allowed off the property with a muzzle.
I have known Kathryn and her family for around 6 years.
Covering the legal bills, that are not able to be covered by legal aid. The first account is for $10,000.
Fair well date 16 July 2020
We are booked for Soulas goodbye at 10.45am on 17 July. 12 hours from me posting this update. He will always be remembered, we are having him cremated and bringing him home to rest, so he never has to leave again.
