Lets get Thomas back to his happy place - Out on the trails!
Taranaki
On the 8th of December 2023 Thomas (37 years old) suffered a life changing accident breaking his neck fracture dislocating his C7 to T1 vertebrae and severely damaging his spinal cord leaving him Paralyzed from his chest down. As well as fracturing his C1 and C2 vertebrae he is lucky to still be with us. Thomas is now described as being tetraplegic - no movement or feeling in his legs and torso, without hand function and limited arm function.
Since the accident he has been an absolute trooper and determined to get his body functioning as much as he can and working hard to get his independence back not only for himself but his family and especially his 8 year old son.
Being an active outdoor orientated person and a bricklayer by trade the injury has not come without its mental challenges for Thomas and we want to give him the best opportunity's to be able to get out and find enjoyment once again! His wish is to buy an adaptive mountain bike but they are not cheap to purchase and import from Canada, we will be grateful for any help towards his goal to own one.
With having this bike he will be able to regain some of his social connections with friends and family. We ride as a family and it is important for us to continue to do so. It will also be beneficial to accessing places his wheelchair cant like the beach/river and hiking trails.
As Toms partner I have been there with him through the whole journey, seeing how hard he had fought I believe there is no one more deserving of a helping hand with getting back into his passion.
All funds will go towards helping Thomas with purchasing a Bowhead mountain bike specifically designed for people with his type of injury so that he can get back out into nature.
