Stand by Gloria: while she battles leukemia, let’s keep her garden growing for the healthiest meals.
Waikato
I would like to ask for help for my dear friend – a devoted mother of four young daughters. The youngest, Gloria, is braving intense chemotherapy treatment.
The family lives on a small homestead in Puriri, growing a diversity of fruit, vegetables, and medicinal herbs. Their garden is essential for the family’s health and well-being. They strongly believe that homegrown fresh food is paramount to Gloria's wholesome healing and recovery.
Growing staple food for a family of 6 is time demanding, still far more cost-effective than buying the same quality food.
Mum travels with Gloria weekly to Starship or Waikato Hospitals. One scheduled treatment phase is one month-long in Auckland in the peak of spring. And more treatments will continue. Dad looks after the other girls, runs the family and farm chores. However, he copes with major health issues and cannot give the garden full attention.
The family's income from dad's retirement barely covers survival. There is no capacity for additional income now, and there are no spare funds for regular garden help. Their closest family lives in Czechia. In kind support from local friends is not endless either.
The treatment’s intensive schedule and lack of money have put them in an unstable situation. They desperately need help to keep the garden going, so they can thrive on nourishing meals. AND to ensure that little Gloria can live with us for many years to come.
The treatment is expected to continue for at least two more years.
I lived on their homestead as a woofer and became a close friend. It broke my heart that I can´t help more when they needed it most, due to my own tough financial situation. That’s when I realised how essential long-term financial support is needed.
Funds will go toward a gardener for 2 years to help preserve the family’s main source of healthy food and maintain little Glorias´ health.
