Supporting Toby’s recovery after a serious dog attack, both physically and emotionally.
Auckland
Toby, our 8-year-old Toy Poodle, was seriously injured in a dog attack on 20 February 2026. What started as a normal walk turned into an emergency, and he required hours of surgery to treat multiple deep open wounds and a pelvic fracture.
As it has now been almost a month, Toby is back home and physically recovering, but the journey is not over. In many ways, his emotional recovery has been even harder than his physical recovery. He is still traumatised and becomes extremely fearful whenever he sees a large dog.
His injuries were severe, and ongoing care, medication, and follow-up treatment are still needed.
So far, we have paid over NZD $10,000 in veterinary costs, with more expenses expected as he continues to heal.
Despite initial assurances that the costs would be covered, the expenses have not been reimbursed, leaving us to manage the financial burden ourselves.
We are sharing Toby’s story not to place blame, but to be transparent about what has happened and what lies ahead. Any support, no matter how small, would help us continue giving him the care he needs to recover.
Thank you for taking the time to read Toby’s story and for your kindness.
The funds will help cover both the significant veterinary costs we have already paid and the ongoing care Toby still requires for his recovery.
