Toffee Pop is only four years old, but she’s already been through more than most cats in a lifetime.

I first heard about her in the op shop run by the Taupo cat rescue. I overheard two people talking — this young cat had just come back into care after being abandoned in an industrial area, not once but twice. She’d been adopted out, only to be dumped like rubbish to fend for herself again.

My heart broke right there in the shop. I was looking for a companion and thought, why am I standing here when I could give her a home? So I stepped in, filled out an adoption form, and that’s how Toffee Pop came home with me (along with Pepsi).

Now she needs me more than ever. Out of nowhere, Toffee Pop has lost the use of her back legs. She’s at the vet on anti-inflammatories, but the cause is still unknown. To give her the best chance of recovery, she urgently needs an MRI in Auckland.

This couldn’t have come at a harder time. I’m my father’s full-time caregiver as he battles stage 4 cancer. We’ve also been through repeated burglaries in Auckland while dealing with my stepmother’s passing, which forced us to move to Whitianga to try and rebuild. We’re doing the best we can, but the truth is we simply can’t afford this on our own.

Please help me give her the future she deserves — a life free from pain, full of cuddles, and full of love. ❤️
