Help Tom and Jan recover from a dog attack

I'm curious as to why donors do not want any surplus money to go towards investigations. Surely it is important to prosecute anyone who is cruel to animals. Having read the article about Jan and Tom, I suspect Jan would be only too happy to help in this area. Investigations leading to prosecutions for animal cruelty gives animals the importance they deserve and sends the message that cruelty to animals is not acceptable.

Hi, I see the page has been closed. I'd like to make a donation to Jan and also send something for the cat. If I send her a cheque, would she be able to bank it? Would you be able to let me know her postal address? Could you kindly let me know. Thank you so much!

Thank you for your very kind offer to donate money to Jan and Tom. We closed the Give-A-Little page as the public were incredibly generous and we reached our target very quickly. Jan however is unable to accept donations directly, she would prefer that all donations came though the SPCA and we distribute the money to her for day to day costs and to the medical costs for Tom as necessary. Therefore if you would still like to donate towards these costs, please make the cheque out to SPCA, and sent it to PO Box 7069 Newtown, Wellington. Kindly reference your cheque with ‘Jan and Tom’ so we can ensure correct distribution of the funds. Alternatively, you can donate online on https://www.wellingtonspca.org.nz/donate/make-a-one-off-donation/ , referencing your donation 'Jan and Tom' and we will ensure the funds are sent to her directly. Thank you again.

I was speaking to a friend who donated and she had thought all funds were going to Jan and Tom as per the title "Help Tom and Jan recover from a dog attack", she was shocked when I told her in the fine print at the bottom of the page the surplus goes to SPCA for an investigation.

I really think all surplus funds should go to Jan, otherwise you should change the title as it is a misrepresentation and isn't to help Jan recover but to help Tom recover and fund an investigation.

I really think surplus funds should go to Jan, people are donating to help Jan and Tom as per the title. Not to help an investigation into the perpetrators of the crime against them.

I really hope some of the surplus funds will go to Jan, otherwise you should change the title to reflect that this is for Tom's vet bills and investigation, not to help Jan recover from a dog attack.

Thanks.

Hello Jessica

Thanks for your message. It is our top priority to ensure that Tom gets all the medical treatment he requires and can assure you that these, as well as any hidden expenses Jan may incur during the course of this will be paid for by these incredible donations. We have closed down the Give A Little page now as the target amount has been reached, but we will continue to update the public via Face book on Tom's progress and what treatment he will require. As you can imagine the costs to investigate such cases are considerable too, but please be rest assured that Tom and Jan are priority.

I posted this to Facebook and people wish to donate but for some reason the page has closed prematurely on Jan 3rd instead of Feb 3. Can you please rectify so Tom & Jan can get as much assistance as possible.

Hello Andreae

Thank you for your message. We were absolutely delighted and astounded by the incredible public generosity; the target figure was reached within 8 hours of us launching it, hence the reason for it closing prematurely. However we feel sure that Jan will incur some on going costs for which she will need support, so if you would like to donate, please use our donation link https://www.wellingtonspca.org.nz/donate/make-a-one-off-donation/ referencing your donation 'Jan and Tom' and we will ensure the funds are sent to her directly. Thank you again.

Hi, I want to make a donation that goes to Jan rather then the vet bills or investigation, if I donate would it be possible if it could be given to Jan?

I think that now it has reached $20k it will hopefully be enough to cover Tom's vet bills and since Jan is on the benefit and was living out of a car for a while she doesn't have much money and I believe is also a good cause to donate to. She seems like a lovely lady and I really want to help her with a small donation that she can spend on things that she personally needs.

Please let me know if that would be okay.

Hello Jessica

What a lovelyt thought and we thank you. Yes we believe that the money raised trough Give A Little will be enough to cover Tom's treatment and so a donation to Jan personally I am sure will be appreciated by her. We do not have access to her personal banking details, however we are hoping to get that from her today and once we do I can let you have it. Thanks again.
