Funds are being raised to support the care of our Sister and Baby in hospital in Tahiti, and also their safe return home.

E Ngā uri a Oka rāua ko Hemi!
Kia Ora everyone,
My sister at age 19 who lived in Rapanui where she descends from or more commonly known as Easter island recently
In the last 2 months received news that she was pregnant. Due to the very behind health system in Rapanui they were unable to confirm for sure how far along she was.
As a whānau we decided the best option was to bring her home to Āotearoa to deliver our pēpi, so we could equip her with the best possible health care to assist her in her first pregnancy 🙂
She was due to arrive home today,
However upon arrival to Tahiti and before she could make it back to Aotearoa she unexpectedly went in to labour and had baby 4 weeks early in Tahiti. The medical practitioners there confirmed for us that she was 8months pregnant which as you can imagine, was a complete shock.
Despite the shock and trauma of birthing alone, in a hospital of strangers.
We had a beautiful baby girl 🙂
As a result of baby’s early arrival she is currently in an incubator to assist her breathing, and the development of other organs to learn how to function outside of the womb. My sister is also, currently in need of healing and is required to
Stay in hospital.
Māmā and Pēpi are being looked after health wise, but
as you can imagine our sister is really in need of my Mum to be by her side and guide her through this as it is an emotional journey to go through alone.
Currently we are trying to get Mum there to Tahiti, and also communicate with the hospital. As there is a language barrier this has been difficult, but a number of people have managed to provide some relief in terms of translations.
There are a number of costs attached to the necessary process from here forward..
1 - Cost of communications between countries
2 - Flights and accomodation
3 - The cost of health care in Tahiti ( which we have been informed by health care practitioner will be $3’100 American per night for my sister and $3’600 American for baby). At this point the number of nights necessary for them to stay is dependent on baby’s progress which sits between 2 - 7 nights at most.
3 - Birth registration, Passport and certificates for baby to bring Mum our sister and our baby home.
As a result of the costs that go beyond our means to provide, we are starting this give a little page to help with funds to support our sister, our baby and their care but mostly their return to us waiting here at home.
We accept any amount, and appreciate the thought before the number.
If there may be any other means of support, we as a whānau ask that you keep my sister and Pēpi in your thoughts and Karakia during this time, and we will ensure to keep everyone updated to the best of our ability.
With a humble heart, and a yearn for my sister and our baby’s return we thank you all.
I’m her sister.
