Help Bring Stella home
Timaru, Canterbury
The Karearea or New Zealand falcon has been severely impacted by loss of habitat and the introduction of predators such as stoats and ferrets, and are now endangered. These birds which are endemic are a taonga and need our help.
The NZ Raptor Trust which is totally run by passionate volunteers have developed and are implementing a breeding programme in Timaru. This is one of only three such accredited programmes in New Zealand.
Right now we have a pair of birds, Stella and Jet who are currently resident at the Karearea Falcon Trust in Blenheim, who are ready to move in as soon as we have their accomodation finished.
We have the structure of the compound done but we still have a long way to go. At this stage of the project we need to fit windows and doors to the breeding pens and admin. Will you be part of this exciting mission and donate to help us purchase and fit these and help improve the future survival of the Karearea.
The New Zealand Raptor Trust, based in Timaru, provides education, advocacy, rescue and rehabilitation for New Zealand raptors.
The money will be spent on the next stage of this project, purchasing and fitting doors and windows to our Karearea breeding compound.
Work progressing 5 September 2025
Work is progressing on getting power, water and drainage to the raptor facility. Trenches have been dug to run power cables and water pipes, a hole for our waste water pump and a pad for the tank.
