Help us fight Stu's cancer

  • Update 18th treatment session - Good News !

About 18 months ago our family got hit with some brutal news. I’ll be blunt, it was lung cancer and he wasn’t given long. Months, and not many of them. But dad doesn’t give up easily. He started a course of Keytruda, an immunotherapy treatment not funded by the govt. Many of you pitched in to help him get it. We’re forever grateful to you all for that. Really, from the depth of our hearts we are. He responded well to the treatment. So well, in fact, that last week he got the news from his latest scan = no detectable cancer in the lungs or neck. Let me say that again. NO CANCER WAS DETECTED. To say it feels surreal is an understatement. We are beyond relieved and happy. The treatment continues at present. Not everyone can access effective treatment or responds well to it. We’re so lucky and grateful. Thank you to those who literally helped keep dad alive. I desperately hope in the very near future the government funds this treatment and makes it available to all.

    10th treatment completed. Oncologist advises

Overall a good reduction in tumours and latest scan establishes no new ones.

So, a great response to the life saving drug Keytruda !!!

A big thank you to those who generously donated and enabled this success.

Just completed 6th treatment of Keytruda. This drug is remarkable! A CT scan reveals 50% reduction in measurable tumours, so a very positive reaction to Keytruda. Yahoo!! A massive thanks to all those who have donated and provided support. The fact this miracle drug is not funded by the government (present and past) for Squamous cancers is shocking. Collectively we all need to raise our voice to ensure the call is heard to get funding for this drug to keep people alive.

  • Fantastic news - Positive Effects from Treatment !!!

This week was 4th treatment of Keytruda. The FANTASTIC news is that despite being this early in the treatment, already there are positive effects beginning to show!! Medical experts involved in the treatment identified in a recent scan definite shrinkage in the size tumours!! Such news this early into the treatment is an extremely positive sign and shows just how marvellous this drug Keytruda is at combating this form of cancer, despite not being funded by the government. Stu, Jo and their family, would like to thank everyone who have donated and provided support in so many ways in these recent months; from family, friends, present and former workplaces & colleagues - to complete strangers. The generosity has been amazing and the experience humbling.

  • Second round of treatment done and dusted!

      15 September 2020

Dad has now received his second round of Keytruda and no side effects so far! Thanks to everyone who contributed to make this possible. It's still too early to know yet whether the treatment is working, so please cross your fingers, toes, eyes and everything else for us.

Lockdown has made it tricky to get together, but we had an awesome Father's Day together and Dad got plenty of cuddles with his grandson Charlie. They make a handsome duo.

It's still an uncertain road ahead, but for now we're all feeling incredibly lucky to have this time together and grateful for the continued support of friends, family and some very lovely strangers.

  • First Treatment Milestone!

      14 August 2020

    Hi everyone,

Despite the country moving into Level 3 this week, Dad was able to receive his first Keytruda treatment yesterday. This was only possible because of your generous donations. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Dad will need a few more treatments before we know if it's working, so it's still an uncertain and expensive future ahead, but we're all pretty buoyed by this first step.

We're all so grateful for your support, and proud of Dad for battling like a champ. Thank you.
