We're having a new cross built for Mt Roskill for this and future Christmas/Easters. Help us restore Mt Roskill's 60-year-old tradition.
Auckland
Since 2018, Mount Roskill's 60-year-old cross which sat on the top of the Mount at Christmas and Easter has been gone.
A community action group has since come together with the Maunga Authority and the Puketāpapa Local Board to see what options there are for a permanent solution for our cross/star. This process will take some time and go into next year.
In the mean time, we've decided to put our heads together to have a new cross - as big and bright as the old one - put just below the summit of the Mount and to apply for an event permit to do this. It has to be be below the summit due to new Maunga Authority policy.
The old cross was very expensive to erect and remove each year. So, working with the ministers, we are in the process of having architects design a lighter, more mobile, illuminated, solar powered structure. This will serve Mt Roskill for years to come.
But we need your help.

Let's get the cross back for Christmas!
The design and construction of a new illuminated outdoor cross structure. Precise specifications are pending, but the dimensions and illumination will be similar to the old Mt Roskill cross/star, while the material will be lighter and more mobile.
