Support us in representing New Zealand at the RS Feva World Championship in Germany
Auckland
Luka Ropers and Carter Robson have been firm friends for years. They met through sailing in their younger years and have attended many sailing competitions in their single-handed Optimists. They both live in Beachlands/Maraetai area.
The boys are members of the Maraetai Sailing Club - a small but active community group offering dinghy sailing tuition, windsurfing, windfoiling and paddleboarding.
Luka attends Sancta Maria College in year 10. He plays football for the school and is a very active sailor and skateboarder. He continues to sail his Optimist as he is light enough and competes strongly in all New Zealand based regattas.
Carter studies at Macleans College, also in year 10. He also skateboards with Luka and sails competitively in a 420 with a school team.
Together they have been sailing the FS Feva for about 6 months and are absolutely loving it. Their results to date also show that they are pretty good at it.
Later this year, they are heading to compete in the 2020 RS Feva World Championship at the Lübecker Yacht Club in Travemünde, Germany. This is a significant event - over 200 boats competing with participants travelling from all over the globe including UK, Australia, Netherlands, Italy, China, Czech Republic, USA, Denmark……the list goes on.
Embarking on such a journey is obviously a huge expense: as well as the obvious travel, accommodation and costs for 4 people, they will need to register for the event, charter a boat, hire a support boat, rent a car.
Follow us on Facebook and Instagram while we make preparations for the competition and if you can offer any support to help us on our way, then please do not hesitate to contact us on 021 243 4754 or donate (every little helps!)
I am Luka's Mum and hoping to raise funds for Carter and Luka
Apart from the obvious costs of travel and accommodation for the boys and their fathers, the boys will need to charter a boat, hire a coach to support them on the water, rent a support boat, register for the event. Total estimated costs: $25,000.
Dream is getting closer 3 February 2020
