Let’s get this mumma cat spayed so she has a chance at life
Hamilton, Waikato
This sweet mumma lives behind the garbage dump behind a garden centre in Hamilton, New Zealand.
She appears to be the only female cat in the colony and is now heavily pregnant. We or our contacts don’t have the capacity or means to catch and socialise the kittens if she were to have them. This would be at least her second litter.
The SPCA has suggested we hire a pest control company to euthanise her, but I want to give her a chance at life. This page is to raise the funds for her desexing surgery and additional vet costs so she can have her life back without worry of pregnancy.
Plan: trap her, take her for the surgery, keep her for 2 nights and then find someone who is willing to keep her as a barn cat. If she warms up she might even be able to be socialised!
Cost breakdown (vet quoted):
1. Spay with pregnant cat: $370 nzd
2. Vet consult, vaccines, flea and worm treatment: $130+ nzd
The total will updated if we find a subsidised/cheaper vet willing to work on a feral cat 😃
Your donation goes a long way and even a little is appreciated. Thank you for your consideration and support. I’ll find a way to give you guys updates on mumma!
The funds will be spent on her desexing surgery, vaccines, flea & worm treatments, also if the 2 overnight stays occur any costs. Costs will be updated if cheaper solutions are found. Please refer to the description.
Happy ending for mumma cat! 29 October 2025
Here’s a long overdue update for all my lovely, wonderful, kind and generous donors. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your donations and thank you so much for caring for mumma cat.
I’ll keep volunteering and taking care of strays in your stead! Let’s look out for our community cats together 🫶
(Update originally posted on r/thetron)
Around a week after posting this page, I ended up reaching out to Flawless Paws rescue who identified that she may be a stray instead of a feral.
We’ve caught her, had her desexed and she’s now in a foster home, where she is making slow but steady social progress. We know that someday she’ll come out of her shell and be the happiest and sweetest cat.
Sincerely all my thanks to everyone who donated, and all the people who offered to give her a home despite unideal living situations. It warms my heart to see people willing to care for a cat that may not return their love.
The funds raised through this page have gone towards her desexing, and later on her microchipping. The additional funds raised will all be donated to Flawless Paws Cat Rescue.
Thank you all! I never imagined we would get such a happy ending 😁😁😁
