Help Us Pay My Father’s Unexpected Medical Bills

My father, Mohammed Iltaf, travelled from Fiji to New Zealand to visit me and spend time with our family. What was meant to be a happy visit quickly became one of the most difficult times of our lives.

During his stay, he injured his left foot. Because he has diabetes, the wound became severely infected and worsened rapidly. He was admitted to Wellington Hospital (Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand), where he underwent multiple surgeries to control the infection. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, the infection spread, and his fifth toe had to be amputated to save the rest of his foot.

We are incredibly grateful for the care he received, but we were left with an outstanding hospital bill of NZD $36,649.95

I am currently living and working in New Zealand on a work visa. I work hard to support my family and pay rent, household bills, and other essential living expenses. Unfortunately, this unexpected medical debt is far beyond what I can afford on my own.
