  • Update - Withdrawal of appeal against PC69

    It is with some sadness that we update the situation with our appeal against PC69. With Selwyn District Council (SDC) deciding to rezone the land for PC69 themselves, and the new Government opening up fast tracking of greenfield consents, we had to make the decision to withdraw our appeal against the PC69 development. We were led to believe that an appeal was possible, and should we have been able to have a fair hearing in the Environment Court we would have had a strong case, but sadly that is not to be. We would like to sincerely thank all of our supporters, lawyers, resource planners, and soil scientists who have given their time to help get this campaign as far as it did. Our collective action did help to get the National Policy Statement - Highly Productive Land across the line and has helped others to protect highly productive, food producing land which should remain a priority.

    With your help and support we have now achieved our first two milestones!

    The first being raising the funds needed to lodge the appeal and the second, submitting our appeal on 4 August. Thank you!

    So what's next?

    We now wait to hear when the court date will be and expect this will most likely be set for late 2023 at the earliest.

    We are also focused on building national awareness and support as the loss of Highly Productive Land (HPL) is a national issue with national impacts.

    Our appeal will be a test case for avoiding development on HPL for all of New Zealand.

    We remain committed to seeing this through for the benefit of all New Zealanders and for future generations. Thank you for your ongoing support.

  • Progress update - Legal Representation & First Target reached!

    Thank you for all the amazing support so far! We have some exciting updates to share with you:

    1. After thorough consideration, we’re excited to announce we haved appointed a lawyer with great experience in resource management law.

    2. With over $10k raised we have met our first target of $7K to prepare and lodge the appeal! We’ll then continue to work towards our ultimate target of $100k+ for the full case.
