Aroha in action: Help Naomi and her whānau wrap their arms around Robyn, hold each other close, and nurture joy in the midst of hardness.

Paekakariki, Wellington

If you’ve spent even five minutes with Naomi – or any of her beautiful 8 tamariki – you’ll know what we mean when we say they are aroha, laughter, and generosity personified. Naomi, Nomes, whaea Naoms, Mum, e hoa – she’s all of these and more. She grew up in Paekākāriki, where every mum was everyone’s mum. Her own mum mumsed us all, and Naomi carries that same mana: always holding others, always giving, never asking.

Right now, Naomi is holding more than most of us could imagine.

Earlier this year, her daughter Robyn – Naomi’s third child of eight, aged just 29 – began experiencing breast pain. In April, she was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. Soon after, the news got worse: it had spread. Her diagnosis is now terminal.

Robyn is a quiet force – the one behind the scenes, full of dry humour and deep kindness. Recently married to the love of her life, Andrew, they were dreaming of travel and family. Now, those dreams have shifted to something more urgent: time.

Your koha will help ease financial pressure so Naomi and her whānau can focus on what matters most – making memories, holding each other, and finding joy in the time they have left.

Please give what you can and help hold them, like they’ve always held us.
