Help us wrap support around Rob and his beautiful family.

Whangarei, Northland

On 26th February, this beautiful family was shaken by the news that Rob (36) had been the victim of a serious assault in Whangārei and had to be flown to Auckland Hospital for emergency surgery for a life-threatening head injury.

At the time of setting up this page, Rob is still in a coma and in ‘critical’ condition. We do not know what the road ahead looks like right now but providing he does wake up, we do know that it will be a long rehabilitation process. It will be a difficult time for Rob’s family, especially his amazing wife Elysha, their (almost) two-year-old and their one-month old baby.

We want to be able to wrap as much love and support around the family at this time and so have set up this page to help with the costs involved in Rob’s support and recovery, especially as he can’t be based in Whangārei at this time.

Elysha and Rob are two of my longest-standing friends, this page is on behalf of all the family and close friends of the family.

Use of funds

Travel to and fro and accommodation in Auckland for family members while Rob receives treatment. Taking the financial pressure off The Ludlows while Rob is recovering.

A final update - and a big Thank You!  14 October 2023

Rob made it, we’re finally home!

A little while ago we snuck home & are settling into our new routines, slowly catching up with friends & enjoying all the normal things we missed so much. You really don’t realise how lovely normal is, until normal is taken away.

Rob was discharged from rehab sooner than anticipated, thanks to his drive & determination to get better! He’s now fully mobile & has had that burger he was looking forward to, although he’s since revealed he’s lost his sense of taste! He’s been enjoying hitting the gym again, we’ve been fishing, for lots of walks & just hanging out together.

Rob’s goals now are to get fit & strong again, being able to drive, getting back to work, relearning how to read, & to go diving. We are so excited to spend lots of time at the beach with the kids, a family holiday & lots of fishing!

From Rob…Thank you all so much. It’s been so incredible what you’ve done for me, & for my family. Lysh sometimes reads me some of the messages you’ve put on this page, thank you all so much, I’m amazed & feel lucky to have so much support.

It’s been great to see your familiar faces around. Sorry if I can’t remember your name, I’m working on it but my memory is pretty bad!

I’m loving being back with my family, every day feels like a win.

Thank you all, this means the world to me.

The road we’re on is still long, and sometimes hard & frustrating. But together, with all of you in our corner, we’ll get there 💪

Love Rob, Lysh, Finn & Frankie
