Tina asks

Hi is it $2000 just to amputate the end of his tail ? He looks a gorgeous boy but seems excessive. I’ve seen leg amputations a lot cheaper than that. Not picking just wondering

Amy

Hi Tina, Thanks for your question. Below is from the vet who is treating him at The Strand Veterinarian close to where Gizmo lives. He will be getting his teeth seen to as well so he can live a long healthy life as he is not regularly seen by a vet. His original owner passed away last year and his new caregiver doesn't have the money. He is a lovely cat and we don't want him removed from his home. he has lots of friends in his neighbourhood.

"A dental has been recommended for Gizmo. Please see the Guide to Costs attached.

The range will be $1500-1800 which includes:

• Individual anaesthetic plan based on your pet's health status, underlying conditions, breed predispositions, temperament and clinical exam

• Comprehensive blood test beforehand to ensure anaesthetic safety (including Feline AIDS as he may have picked this up in his wanderings in the neighbourhood)

• Anaesthesia including fluid therapy and dedicated nurse monitoring throughout

• Tail amputation in sterile theatre

• Thorough dental assessment and charting under anaesthesia

• Grade 1 scale with ultrasonic scaler & polishing with high quality pumice paste

• This does not include the cost of any x-rays or extractions. Our aim is to just provide basic dental care as it is not ideal to combine extensive dental care with a tail amputation. If he does need extensive dental treatment, this will need to be during a separate procedure."

We don't expect to make $2000 for this fundraiser.

I am personally paying for whatever we don't make.

:)
