  • James is home

      16 December 2020

Hi everyone, James was transfered from starship hospital auckland to christchurch hospital to meet the team there. Although James,s heart function remains the same they have allowed him to continue his recovery at home with visits from the community nurse and regular outpatient appointments. James,s team are cautiously optimistic that his heart function will improve. The mclaughlin family are so pleased to have James home and thank everyone for their donations and continued support over this very difficult time and send you all much love over christmas xx

Hi everyone, James has had a step back to his recovery, he is going to intensive care unit today, his heart is not improving as would be expected so his team have decide to try stronger medication. James is going into surgery to have a line put in so the medication can go straight to the heart over the next 24hr period. he will remain in PICU for the next 3-4 days being monitored with the hope that they will see some improvement. Thankyou so much for all your much needed well wishes and prayers xx

Hi everyone, James has now moved up to the cardiac ward. This is a positive step for him. He has a long journey ahead. Aswell as putting on weight he must learn to walk again. All of this must be done slowly as not to stress the heart, it has a long way to go to be functioning well. Sarah, Ian, Lily and James once again want to thank you all. They are truly humbled by your kind thoughts and generosity

hi everyone, Thankyou for all your support. James was taken into surgery last Tuesday to be taken off the ECMO machine and that was successful. He is still in PICU being monitored and is on medication to help his heart. It could be a long wait to see improvement in his heart but James is doing a bit better sitting up and he is able to chat and eat a little bit. Xx

Well done James - your football team were talking about you on Sunday when we had the team photo taken - they all said that they were missing you and wished you were here for the team photo. Take care wee man - be strong and take each day as it comes to becoming a stronger wee man. Your team will see you back on the football field with them soon.

You are always in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Hi everyone, James has made it through surgery to remove the pheochromoctoma tumor and adrenal gland that was causing his heart failure. James had to be on an ECMO machine to support the heart and lungs and continue the supply of blood and oxygen through surgery and will remain in PICU on the ECMO machine for the next 3-10 days or longer. This is the first bid hurdle on James road to recovery. The McLaughlin family wishes to thank everyone and appreciates all the support well wishes and donations xx
