Life-saving surgery for 3 year old cat hit by car
Birkenhead, Auckland
Kiko went missing last week, and we later learned a kind neighbour had found her after she was hit by a car and taken to the emergency vet. At first things looked hopeful because she was stable and able to move, but further diagnostics showed she has a severely fractured pelvis. The right side is shattered and the left side is also damaged.
The good news is her prognosis is still positive. There are no signs of nerve damage, and she is wagging her tail, moving her legs, eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom. The vets recommend surgery over euthanasia, as she is young and has a strong chance of making a full recovery with the correct care.
Kiko was treated at North Shore and transferred to ARC for specialist care. Her emergency and overnight care has already cost 4,000 to 5,000 dollars and she needs a CT scan before surgery (another 3-4k). Surgery is up to 16,000 dollars for the best outcome and overnight care is between 1.1k and 1.5k per night. Our insurance (still pending approval) is not as robust as originally thought and would only cover part of this amount.
We are trying to stretch our savings to cover costs, but we are also caring for another unwell cat who is undergoing diagnostics for a heart condition, so our funds are very limited and we’re struggling to balance this.
I know times are tough, but any help would mean so much. Thank you for reading, sharing, or donating to help Kiko have a crack at life. Any remaining funds will be donated to a cat charity
