Help Zahra to go to the Brisbane International Contemporary Dance Prix.

Hello, my name is Zahra Omar and I am a 19-year old, contemporary dance student. I am from Christchurch, New Zealand and I am currently dancing and completing my final year at Transit Dance in Melbourne, Australia.

Dance has been a true lifelong passion of mine.I danced at Sara Anderson School of Dance studying ballet, jazz, contemporary, heels and musical theatre. I realised that my heart belonged to contemporary .I successfully auditioned to Transit Dance, I moved to Melbourne in January 2023.

Living in Melbourne has presented me with many opportunities. I love living here and studying although it has come with its challenges. It has been tough on me, emotionally and financially. I have missed being around the support network of my family. It has been challenging not having a student allowance, needing to fund my education, accomodation and living costs.

I auditioned for a workshop for the 23rd-28th September at BICD Prix (Brisbane International Contemporary Dance Prix) I was one of 90 students accepted globally! I am hopeful that I will be able to attend. But to make this happen I will need the support of my wider community. I am hoping to raise enough money to be able to pay for the workshop fee of $700AUD, the cost of return flights from Melbourne to Brisbane, and accommodation.
