I am competing with a team of four in the annual International Young Physicists' Tournament (IYPT) in July being held in Beijing.
Wellington
I am a 17-year-old, year 13 student at Onslow college. I have been competing in physics tournaments since I was in year 10. A physics tournament is a competition where problems are given out and from the time the problems are announced, to when the tournament is, is how long you have to answer the problem. In doing these I have ended up with a physics understanding of many concepts that aren’t covered until 2nd or 3rd year Uni. Since first starting, I have competed in 6 tournaments, have personally coached teams for 2, helped organise 1, and have actively helped a team in 5 others. These have all been at varying levels. Out of the ones I have competed in, I have only represented my school, out of the 6 my team has won 4 and I have come 2nd in 2 (very close seconds as well). Since starting it has been my dream to be able to compete on the international stage. I now have the opportunity to take my work on 3 out of the 17 problems to China, and represent NZ, also as the only female in the Team. We have some funding from the Royal Society, but there is still a further $1,500 I need to raise on my own to be able to get over there. By attending, my ultimate goal is for me and my team to place as well as we can.

She is my daughter and is only 17 so can't be a legal beneficiary.
The money is for me to be able to get to Beijing. Surplus money will be donated to next team to help them get to next IYPT.
