Help to be able to get to Portugal for the last 10KM open water Olympic qualifier. To represent New Zealand on the world stage.
Taranaki
Hi I am currently New Zealand's 10KM and 5KM Open Water Champion. I am on a journey to try and achieve my life time goal of making the Olympics, representing New Zealand.
I have recently just earned the spot to be able to go to Portugal in June for the last Olympic qualifying race.
As with everything that we come across in life there are challenges and barriers that we must over come before reaching our end goal. At this stage I am faced with the challenge of being a full time, self funded athlete for New Zealand. With the National body unable to help with funding to get to Portugal this makes being able to train at 100% and also find time to earn enough to fully fund my trip impossible.
I am fully aware of what it takes to be able to compete on the world stage and I no that no part of training can be compromised if I want to reach my goal of making the Olympics.
I am based in New Plymouth and truly believe and showing everyone that to make your dreams and strive for your goals you do not need to move out of the smaller towns or overseas. It really comes down to how much you want to achieve and the sacrifice you are willing to make to let your dreams become a reality.
Any support that you are able to give would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Charlotte Webby.
Time is getting closer. 13 April 2016
Wow the support and donations that you all have given me has been unbelievable. I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone and hope that I can make you all proud.
The last couple of months have been super busy and finding time in my day to fit everything has been a challenge but at no point in time have I sacrificed my training.
I recently just attend the New Zealand pool nationals where it was the trial meet for the Olympics if trying to make it in the pool. As I had to use it as a training week this was quite hard for me to get in and race fast times and I was still in work load and everyone else was fresh and rested. I race four events where I walked away with a third, two fourths and a eight so was pretty happy that I was still able to achieve a high standard in the pool.
Seeing the swimmers qualify for the Olympics in the pool just made me more determined to try and get my name on the Olympic team in June. The day after the pool nationals had finished in Auckland I had the final race in the ocean swim series. I was up against Emma who had just qualified for RIO in the 800m freestyle so I knew that this was going to be a tough race. It was 2.8KM, so a little longer then a pool race but a little shorter then the 10KM I swim.
I was over the moon to walk away from the race with the win and also the over all series win.
I am now in a huge training block where the next two weeks I will be swimming 80+ KM. It is hard but with my dream of going to RIO in my sights and knowing that so many people like each one of you believe and support me helps my get through the tough times and stubble out of the pool with a smile on my face.
