Brooke was diagnosed with Aplastic Anaemia in December 2015. This is a very rare life threatening disease (2 in a million). Aplastic Anemia means that her bone marrow is failing to produce new blood cells which leads to bone marrow failure.
Brooke is heading to StarShip Hospital in Auckland for treatment and a bone marrow transplant. She will probably need to be in Auckland for a minimum of 100 days which means her Mum (Clare Jones) will also be in Auckland for 100 days.
Brooke has two sisters, Maddy (9) and Jess (5). Jess has been confirmed as a match for a bone marrow transplant, so she will also be heading to Starship to be the donor for Brooke.
The family live in Nelson and will need to travel to Auckland regularly. Obviously Clare will not be able to work during this time so apart from it being a stressful time with regards to Brooke’s health and the sisters being separated it will also put a huge financial pressure on the family.
The money raised will be used by the family to help cope financially when Brooke is in Auckland for the transplant and also to help to fly Maddy and Jess up to Auckland to visit their sister and Mum. Once they return home to Nelson there is no fixed time frame for when Brooke will be well enough for Clare to return to work so again any money raised will help relieve some of the financial pressure on the family.
Brooke and her family have had a long relationship with Rangers Rugby Club and we want to help them in any way we can at this difficult time.
