Cartagena Paws is desperately short of supplies, medicines and food to treat & feed injured & abused animals
Auckland
Hi, i’m Peter Leutenegger & I am going to Columbia on the 17th March this year to volunteer 2 weeks of my time at “Cartagena paws”, an animal rescue centre/shelter in Cartagena. They do amazing work….. rescuing, treating, caring for and adopting abused, injured & neglected animals (mainly dogs but also cats). They see some horrific cases of animal cruelty & the work they do to get these animals healed & trusting again is incredible.
They are desperately short of supplies, medicines and food to treat & feed these animals. The foundation relies solely on donations & volunteers as they receive no government or local council funding.
Please also visit their website: www.cartagenapaws.com to learn more about the great work they do & the incredible results they achieve.
I have a passion for animals & i’m taking annual leave to help this great small team at Cartagena Paws, I am paying all my own expenses (air fares & accommodation) and I can personally guarantee 100% of all donations will be given to Cartagena Paws and will make a huge difference to the animals. Any money that you are able to give will be greatly appreciated and will save lives at the foundation.
All donations will go to buy much needed food and to help to pay for some of the big veterinary bills that are regularly required to save & treat these animals.
Update on Cartagena Paws trip 24 May 2017
Hi,
I’m just wanting to give an update to everyone that helped me in my recent trip to Cartagena Paws, the animal rescue centre in Cartagena, Colombia.
I have now been back in NZ 6 weeks and should have done this earlier, but there doesn’t seem enough hours in the day.
Anyway…… my flights to Cartagena went well, though long (34 hours from leaving Auckland to arriving in Cartagena). I stayed at a very basic hotel as i wanted to use my money on the Dogs, not accommodation. Cartagena Paws is in Turbaco, a 40 min drive from the city. I had a day & half to adjust to the time zone & heat before heading to the foundation.
Of my 2 suitcase baggage allowance, I had 1.5 suitcases of veterinary supplies & medicines that was very generously donated by different vets, a veterinary supply company, a Pharmacy and a hospital (just as well i didn’t need to take many clothes)
On my first visit to the foundation I gave Dr Ingrid (the vet who lives at the foundation) all the supplies, she was so happy & incredibly grateful to receive so many quality supplies & medicines. (actually, it brought her to tears)
I asked Cartagena Paws how they wanted to use the $1170.00 that was donated on my “give a little” page, they decided it would be best spent to vaccinate & de-worm all the dogs at the foundation (all 206 of them!) All 6 of us managed to complete this in a very full on day, each dog was also photographed, & a folder made documenting information about each dog.
The foundation is incredibly grateful for all of the donations, and everyone who works there (all of them are volunteers) and I want to thank you so much for your generosity. Your donation defiantly did help to save lives & also improve the quality of their lives.
I spent much of my time there repairing fences and making much needed new gates. Also repairing dog wheelchairs, there is currently 4 paralysed dogs that are able to get around in wheelchairs that support their rear legs & lower body.
It was a great experience, some of it hard & sad, all of it very rewarding. I miss the lovely animals & the great people that i met in Cartagena.
Thank you again,
Peter Leutenegger
