Cooper is my 7 year old son who has recently been diagnosed with Perthes disease. He requires surgery to correct the issues with his hip.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Last year my son Cooper was busy scoring tries on the rugby field. This year he barely was able to make a game. What the doctors thought was irratible hip and would be cured with rest turned out to be Perthes Disease. A condition effecting the femur bone and hip joint causing him both pain and discomfort. Currently he struggles to walk on good days and can no longer get comfortable to sleep. He goes to school both tired and in pain but never complains. He is on the waiting list for public surgery But the wait is too long. I cannot stand to see him in pain for longer than he needs to. The recovery time is long (18 months of walking only, no running or sport) and the sooner we start the sooner my active kid will be back on the field. The money raised will go towards the cost of surgery and his recovery afterwards. We are currently waiting on surgery costs but they are likely to be around $20,000. He has a long road ahead and as a parent I just want to see my an well again.
I am involved because Cooper is my son.
