Please Help David 28yr old fight his stage 4 metastatic melanoma of the brain, trying to make life less stressful for him
West Coast
Hi my names Jasmine Jackson. My partner, David is 28 years old and we have a 3 year old daughter together. In January 2013 My partner David had surgery to remove a melanoma for the left side of his head above his ear, they removed a certain amount of skin around the melanoma and depth beneath it and also removed 49 lynphnodes to prevent it spreading. Since 2013 David has had no check ups at all, in between 2014-2016 he had had all the signs of cancer and it wasn't until 6th January 2016 anything was done about it, 3 months before David couldn't walk straight, had no balance, weight loss, spewing, had double/blurred vision, extremely bad headaches, couldn't speak in sentences, was doing things and having no memory of doing it, sleeping all day and night and a lot more symptoms. You could just tell by looking at him something was seriously wrong, no matter how much i told the doctor at Buller medical, all the symptoms he was getting and that there was probley something in his head related to the melanoma he wouldn't listen. At the end of it i called my dad cause i was scared of what was going to happen next, my dad told me to take David in to the hospital so i did, they sent him up to Greymouth hospital for a CT on his brain which came back with a large tumor (5cms) in the frontal lobe of his brain then they flew him to Christchurch hospital to have it removed 10 hours later. The operation took 8 hours and the surgeons removed all the tumor they could without causing damage to the brain, it was sent away for a biopsy and came back as cancerous, stage 4 metastatic melanoma. Since then david has had full brain radiotherapy at Christchurch hospital and a follow up CT which has shown the tumor is still there its 2cms so now we are flying up to Dunedin for spot radiotherapy in march then later on will do a drug trail to hopefully stop it spreading further.
Im Davids partner of 5 years, Im 22 years old and mother to our 3 year old daughter, Ivy.
stereotactic radiotherapy & skull flap removal 8 April 2016
Update since Full brain Radiotherapy in Christchurch Feb/16..
David and I went up to Dunedin for stereo-tactic radiotherapy 8/3/16 they seen David has a pus filled open wound in his scar from his surgery in January, we got flown up to Christchurch the morning after 11/3/16 and they did an operation on David to flush out the infection and remove his skull flap on the left front side of his head to try clear the infection, the day after David kept having seizures and everything they gave him to try stop the seizures wouldn't work so they had to sedate and paralyze him and put him in ICU, He started breathing on his own the morning after so they removed the breathing tube next day David got sent back up to the neurosurgery ward and got a PICC line put in his arm as hes on a 24/7 antibiotic pump now to clear infection in his brain. We just went to Christchurch 4/4/16 for David to have a PET scan which showed no signs of tumor spreading or cancers anywhere else in the body. There's just a 5 mm spot on his lung but they will keep a eye on that with scans. 7/4/16 David has an infection in his arms his blood count can back really high they've taken new bloods on other arm to double check. Just waiting on results to see what they're going to do hope the infection starts to clear soon its really frustrating for David being hooked up to a 24/7 pump
