I'm a middle aged single woman, with a teenage boy, who recently lost her Fingers and Toes, and has a permanent Tracheotomy, and became a Multiple Amputee.. More Photos in the Gallery, click gallery to view them..

Back in June last year (2015) I went to A&E with a pain in my side which I knew was a kidney stone pain, as I had had them before, however I was left in observation for too long while the A&E team tried to work out was wrong with me.

The kidney stone was blocking one of the tubes in the kidney preventing the fluid from draining away thus backing up within the kidney itself and becoming infected. I became septic, and as a result within 24 hours of arriving into A&E my body began shutting down.

I was on all sorts of dialysis machines for my failing organs, and the family were told to get here as I wasn't meant to make to the end of the week.

My fingers and toes went black and died, my hair came out and I had to have a tracheotomy inserted into my throat to prevent my airway from closing.

However with all odds against me, I pulled through, but as a result I had to have my dead fingers and toes surgically removed. I was in ICU for a couple of months and then in a rehabilitation ward for another couple of months, while I healed and learned to walk and gain my strength back again. Learning to use my hands without full fingers again is ongoing, but luckily my thumbs were saved, so makes things a little easier.

I am asking for help, so that I can attend hospital appointments, for the special footwear that I need, and for the prosthetic fingers and toes that are being offered by the hospital.

Currently I am on a benefit because of my illness, and wish to get better and gain my confidence back so that I can go back to Polytech and complete my studies that were interrupted by this tragedy, to become a zoologist as originally planned, before my life was put on hold.

I cant believe how few people have given to you. Perhaps someone could upload a photo of you, and reference to the NZ Woman's weekly story so people know you are real?

Impressed with your attitude - as the mother of a son who suffered burns to all of his fingers and thumbs (to the very areas that you have had amputated) I have some understanding of the difficulties this poses. I wish you the very best in your rehab and your studies.
