Please help our good friends through the challenge of having a premature baby overseas. Read on for more details.
Auckland
Spare a thought for our friend Erin and her family.
Erin went on a trip to Brisbane and her waters broke at 32 weeks pregnant (8 weeks early) putting her in a situation where she couldn't fly home and is stuck in another country.
She will be stuck in Australia until their new premature baby is born and they are healthy enough to fly home. Due to some complications Erin will be having a C-section which will mean their new baby will be spending some time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Her husband Ricky and their two year old Cooper have flown to Brisbane to be with Erin which means Ricky is not currently working. He has been unable to access holiday pay which has made things very difficult for them, and he needs to be there to support Erin and their son Cooper needs to see her too.
There's accommodation expenses, travel expenses and more for them to pay, which are all unexpected as Erin had hoped to be home from Brisbane well before this baby was to be born.
Although we can't take away all the challenges Erin, Ricky, Cooper and baby are facing, it would be nice to take away some of the financial pressure and allow Ricky and Cooper to stay with Erin as long as possible.
If you're able to give a little, this well deserving family would be forever grateful.
April 12 Update, He's HERE!! 6 May 2016
We have JUST figured out how to do updates on this page!!! Here is one that is a bit late, from April 12:
. . . .????II MAMA and BABY update II????
Many many changes and BIG news from the last 48 hours . . .
First, after a ton of consulting with medical professionals and consideration on our part, we flew back to New Zealand on Monday.
Which was the best decision ever, as Tuesday morning little Leo decided he was ready to make his entrance ?? Born by c-section at North Shore Hospital, and weighing 2.35kg (5.3lbs), Leo is doing so well?? and we are absolutely in love ?
From our home birth with Cooper, to this last couple weeks and a crash c-section with Leo, we have experienced completely opposite ends of the birth spectrum. We are so grateful for the people who have come into our lives in these past few weeks. Your support is incredible and so appreciated.
These next few weeks will hold even more challenges as Leo is still in NICU, but we are surrounded by amazing friends and family now that we are back home, and so happy to have our little man here healthy and safe ??
