Our beautiful Leanne
Wellington
It is with heavy hearts we advise that our beautful and courageous Leanne lost her battle with Cancer on 18th May just before 6pm.
It has been a heart breaking six weeks since Leanne and her partner Gerry first returned to NZ to live with us in Havelock North. Leanne and Gerry were married at our home in Havelock North on 7th May and we had the most wonderful day together. Leanne looked beautiful and was so happy to be marrying Gerry. Leanne was super human that day but since then she started to decline albeit she battled hard to the very last.
We celebrated her life with a private family service again here at home on the 21st May. We were so blessed to have her in our lives and her strong vibrant self lives on in her wee boy Lochlan 2 1/2 years old.

Our beautiful Leanne has Clear Cell Carcinoma of the Urethra. It’s an aggressive, rare cancer with little more than a handful of cases we can learn from.
She’s had surgery to remove her Uterus, Ovaries, Urethra and Bladder, plus months of Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy. Despite this the cancer continues to spread. We are being told it could take Leanne in a matter of months but she is working really really hard to make that years.
For those that don’t know Leanne she’s an extremely strong proud woman who has worked really hard to provide and care for her little boy (Lochie). It’s not easy for Leanne to accept financial assistance but the last thing she wants is to leave Gerry and Lochie with ongoing financial stress.
Another reason for setting up this page is “hope”. Leanne is desperate to hear from anyone who’s had experience with Clear Cell Carcinoma of the Urethra or anyone who has reduced/beaten cancer through diet. As we all know the internet is an amazing way to reach out. Please pass this message along, who knows what it could lead to.
From Leanne….
My oncologist has applied to get me onto a clinical trial using Immunotherapy treatment for Clear Cell Carcinoma of the Kidney. Whilst this is not an exact match for my CCC of the Urethra it is the best fit for this rare cancer. This new treatment is very expensive as it is not yet government subsidised. We don't have an exact figure right now but it will be around $90,000 for a 6 month course. My partner is now my and our beautiful little boy (2yrs 5mths) full time carer. So finances will start to get very tight for us now.
We know we can't magically make Leanne better but we can help fund the drug that may give her more time with her boy, her husband, her family, her friends.
