To aid Mandi and her family with her fight against leukaemia and her recovery after receiving her bone marrow transplant.
Auckland
Mandi was misdiagnosed by numerous doctors and A&E staff members. This caused her leukaemia to progress significantly. When she was finally diagnosed with AML she needed to start with her chemotherapy straight away.
AML is a form of leukaemia rarely found in a young person. Because of the severity of the situation, Mandi needs to get a bone marrow transplant on top of various rounds of chemo. The recovery period for Mandi, once she’s received her transplant, is roughly a year. For about 6 months of that year she will require 24/7 care as she will be too weak to do anything for herself. She will be at home for those 6 months and therefore one of her family members will need to take unpaid leave from work.
This will cause financial strain within her family as they will only be living off one paycheque. This page is created so that the family can focus on Mandi’s recovery and helping her to recover without having to stress about their financial situation.
I am involved in this as I am a very close friend to Mandi. I am setting up this page with the permission of her family so that they can focus on her while she is in hospital. All funds go to them.
Funds will be used to pay for Mandi's day to day expenses other than the hospital stay and in hospital medicine. It will also be used to support her family as one member has to take a substantial amount of unpaid leave to take care of her for the next year while she recovers- some of these expenses are rent, extensive food requirements due to high risks involved with leukaemia, accumulating travel costs and the extra strain of household expenses -with the lack of a second income- power, water.
Thankyou for all the continued support! 17 March 2017
From Mandi:
"Thank you, thank you, we've been absolute blown away by all the love, generosity and support my family and I have received. I cannot express in words how much all of this means to all of us.
We have a long road ahead, starting with the bone marrow transplant happening over the next few hours, till this chapter is closed. We feel encouraged to stay strong and we wouldn't able to do any of this without your support. Thank you.xx"
