Help Marlene fullfill her dreams after a shock diagnosis of 75% of terminal bone cancer affecting her capablity to walk anymore

Waikato

This is my mum Marlene Davies, just under 9 years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer and after a mastectomy, radiation , chemo she seemed to be on the mend and in remission.

Now suddenly we have found out that she has terminal bone cancer.

Mum has found out her insurance still leaves her with $50,000 to pay off her mortgage due to having no sick pay left and having used all her savings up mum is now burdened with the stress of her mortgage payments due , everyday bills and medication and hospital trips for her treatments is making mums diagnosis even more stressful with the reality of being terminal and the worry of not being able to pay her bills due to her illness.

Marlene has always been an outgoing social, lively person but now due to fact that over 75% of her bones are affected with cancer she suffers now with having to give up working ,the ability to walk without the aide of a walking stick, pain which requires regular pain medication daily and due to the fast deterioration she has started to have to use a walker and simple tasks like picking up her grandchildren she can no longer do .

Marlene has worked 41 years nursing across different parts of New Zealand dedicating her life to care and support, doing a variety of nursing jobs and also worked for st johns. She is a women who is giving, loving ,helpful and has always been there when someone was in need.

Sadly mum now relies on constant pain relief, she requires help and struggles with the frustration of not being independent and not being able to walk across a room without pain and with a reality of her body shutting down and most likely paralysis due to the areas on her spinal cord which have been affected.

Being given the diagnosis and how sudden the severity is matters of an income ,bills finishing her house off and doing her bucket list before she dies has become a concern.

Our mum is our everything and always will be, but if we could help her reach her goals and get her house on the market due to the fact that she can no longer manage the stairs and because she has been renovating her house she does not have funds to finish off simple last tasks due to having to imminently have to resign from nursing and lack of income . If we could fulfill her dream to finish off her renovations, to swim with dolphins, to have a family photo taken before her time comes it would be appreciated.

Mum deserves the world and more, with the amount of love and care she has given to others throughout her years of nursing and being the loving caring person she is if we could make her dreams a reality and take the burden of stress away from her while she is suffering like she is, it would mean the world to us and her to be able to provide her last moments on this earth fulled with happiness, less stress and fulfilling her dreams would mean everything and any help to reach her dreams would always be appreciated.

Mum has also registered with the Medical science team in Auckland so when she does pass she wants to be able to leave behind her body to further educate future doctors of NZ and in hope with the amount of cancer mum has spread throughout her body it can help to further the studies to find a cure for this horrible disease that many suffer and die from. This shows what type of a woman our mum is courageous, loving and giving to others.

things getting worse and cancer is spreading faster than we would of liked  20 March 2016

Mum has recently found out the area around her spine is very close to her spinal cord the specialist said if it was on the outside area of her spine would of given her a whole lot more time before she becomes disabled but sadly is it pressing near her spinal cord and eventually the cancer will grow into her spinal cord which means she will be paralyzed from her waist down. This is devasting not only mum knows she wont be here for long but the fact she wont be able to walk anymore her specialist told her she cant pick up anything , dance or even get knocked be given a big cuddle as were in spinal cord could damage her . my heart is so sad to know this as the rest of her family as marlenes always been the ball of the party

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
