Yesterday was everything I could have hoped for in a send off for Matt. The number of people that turned up to celebrate Matt's life was overwhelming.

Everything was perfect - the weather, the venue - even the snow on the Tararuas!

I am incredibly grateful to all of you that attended and the outpouring of love and support from everyone over these last 12 months.

I wish I could contact you all individually - please accept this heartfelt thank you from Wilson and I, we are so blessed to have you all in our lives.

    Kathy & Wilson x

      7 June 2016

We have just confirmed that the final farewell for Matt will take place Monday 13th June at 2pm at the Silverstream Retreat, 3 Reynolds Bach Drive, Lower Hutt, followed by a private cremation.

Thank you for all of your support and prayers which have meant the world to everyone. We understand that not everyone can attend the funeral but if you wish to pass any sentiments onto Kathy and Matt’s family please let us know.

In lieu of flowers a donation to the Mary Potter Hospice would be appreciated.

  • Update June 2016

      6 June 2016

    Hi all...

Things have taken a turn for the worse and Kathy is now focussing all her energy into being there for Matt and Wilson.

Matt is now at Mary Potter Hospice – they are taking incredible care of him and looking after Kathy, Wilson and Matt’s family in a lovely way.

Previous to his admission they have been amazing – they made it possible for Matt to spend a short time back at home with all the bells and whistles you can have and they had some invaluable family time before he was re-admitted.

Matt is simply not up for visitors at the moment; his breathing is very laboured and he is being kept comfortable but that is making it difficult for him to communicate. Kathy has asked that, in lieu of visiting,

    Thanks x

In our last update we were hopeful that Matt would be put forward for an Immunotherapy trial and we are excited to advise that he has been accepted and will receive his first treatment this week!

The drug is called Nivolumab/OPDIVO – you may have seen or heard about it in the media lately. This is such positive news and once again it gives us hope as sadly Matt’s cancer has reared its ugly head again.

Matt has been keeping a low profile lately, just trying to hold it together but feeling considerably unwell. He has had recent radiotherapy which has helped with some of the issues but is extremely fatigued and still suffering the persistent nausea.

We will be in touch again once we have some results from the trial...

Our sincere thanks once again to everyone for their endless support.

    Matt, Kathy & Wilson xxx

  • The last few months

Words cannot express our sincere thanks to family, friends and strangers for the generosity and love you have shown us over the last 6 months.

Matt is doing really well and though he tires easily, he’s currently enjoying every waking moment, just loving nature and life itself. He is still part of the clinical trial he started last year but is no longer taking the drugs as the side effects outweighed his quality of life.

As a natural treatment Matt is now going to try Vitamin C Infusions. His body will be craving some goodness so hopefully this will give him a lift as well as work its magic!

We will never give up hope and with the new Immunotherapy based trials that are starting to be offered in Wellington, we are hoping Matt will be placed in one of these trials as soon as they become available.

Again, our heartfelt thanks to everyone for the love and support Matt has needed to get this far, we are eternally grateful.

    Matt, Kathy and Wilson xxx
