Please help my sister Melanie who is recovering from being sick in hospital for over eight weeks with a rare auto-immune desease.
Manawatu / Whanganui
My sister Melanie (age 37) is a beautiful wife and mother of two beautiful children aged three and four years old.
Up until eight weeks ago Melanie had been healthy and active. She experienced muscle weakness in her legs that became progressively worse until she couldn’t walk and at one stage she even had difficulty holding her head up let alone being able to feed herself or clean her own teeth.
She was admitted to hospital and has had almost every test know to mankind. She was placed on high doses of Prednisone which did very little to help. Two weeks ago she was finally diagnosed with a very rare Auto-immune disease called Necrotising Auto-Immune Myositis (NAM). We have been told that about 300 people in the world have been diagnosed with this condition. Melanie is now on other medication to suppress her immune system which is having some effect, however progress is slow.
Melanie's husband Craig is doing an amazing job working full time, caring for Connor and Danielle and trying to visit Melanie in hospital as much as he can.
We are looking for financial support, to assist with care of her children, to help with the extra costs associated with having someone in hospital including extra petrol costs, be able to purchase equipment that may be of benefit to Melanie that is not able to be supplied through the health system, make any adjustments to her house that may be
necessary for her to go home etc.
As this is a medical condition there is no ACC cover to assist with all of these costs.
Any donation will be gratefully received
Melanie is my lovely sister who is a loving caring person. She is always helping friends and family it is now our time to help her, and her children.
