Raising funds for dad who was diagnosed with Extensive Small Cell Lung Cancer to help provide reliable transport to and from treatment.
Northland
We reside in a small town in the Far North of New Zealand called Ahipara. This is a 15 miniute drive to the nearest town (Kaitaia) and a nearly 3 hour drive to the nearest hospital that provides chemotherapy treatment. At the moment the only form of transport we have to rely on is public and at times family and neighbours. This isn't always easy to manage being that dad is required to go into Kaitaia frequently for blood tests and other medical purposes. But what really takes the energy out of him is the bumpy bus ride down to Whangarei Hospital every 3 weeks for Chemotherapy. Dad has expressed the benefit that having a reliable vehicle of our own will be during this process for himself to get to and from treatment and other appointments as well as provide the ability to be able to do weekly shopping and other daily duties.
I am involved because I have returned home to Ahipara from Auckland to care for my father during this process. I know first hand that a car is needed in order to help make things a lot easier on dad both physically and mentally throughout this journey and it would be a great help just to provide that bit of comfort and reliability for him.
The funds will be used to purchase a reliable vehicle to get my father to and from treatment in Whangarei and possibly Auckland comfortably and also provide the ability to perform other daily/weekly duties. Anything more will be used on dads behalf to help with the cost of any remaining treatments, activities he would like to pursue for himself to live out his life happily and the costs of any funeral expenses when needed.
