I think best is to ask the Ministry of Health about the eligibility for a public health funded system because I knew there was another couple who had been here for almost 10 years but when they both parents fallen ill, their visas were rejected. I think ( I could be wrong) because it may have changed, the eligibility is only for the 2 year visa holder or more. If visas are renewed yearly, then in essence the visa is only one year. There is no harm is checking.

Salamat, Jimma. Canstaff told me that they were going to contact Kuya Rene directly (I got in touch with them a few times) - I hope they have done so. If they have not, do feel free to let me know. I'm happy to contact them again or use social media to put more pressure on them. Best wishes to Kuya Renato.

Magandang araw, Jimma. I have been really upset by the situation that Kuya Renato finds himself in. I have been promoting his cause on social media. I have also contacted Canstaff, suggesting they may want to make a donation. It has just dawned on me that I did not ask your permission or Kuya Renato's. I hope that is OK by you both. Is there any other way I can be of assistance?

Jimma

Hi Vanessa! I apologize for responding so slow. I can't thank you enough for all the efforts you put in just to help Kuya Rene and I am sure he appreciates it more than you know. Actually we are counting on people like you to share and promote his cause, so yes, it is more than okay. Thank you so much for all your help. :)

Hi kabayan.

So sorry to hear about kuya Renato's bills. How many years he has been in New Zealand with a work visa? If he has been here for 2 years or more on a work visa regardless if he holds a 1 year work visa he MUST BE ENTITLED to publicly funded health.

This is from NZ Ministry of Health:

A person who holds a work visa that either:

entitles them to remain in New Zealand for two years or more (work visas start on the person’s first day in New Zealand) OR

entitles them to remain in New Zealand for a period of time which, together with the time that person has already been lawfully in New Zealand immediately prior to obtaining the visa, equals or exceeds two years

is eligible for publicly funded health and disability services.

For more info visit their website http://www.health.govt.nz/new-zealand-health-system/eligibility-publicly-funded-health-services/guide-eligibility-publicly-funded-health-services/work-visa-holder-eligible-be-nz-two-years-or-more

I hope this is a big help for kuya Renato.

Jimma
