Five weeks ago Carl & Julz were about to head off to the outback in Oz to take up a second posting for Julz teaching in the Northern Territory.
Carl was joining her as this was a better option as his business had been experiencing considerable decline in the past year. Julz would get paid more for him just being there and he might get work but also the chance he deserved after many years of bad health to have some time to rest.
Sadly a week before they were to leave Carl was admitted into Wellington Hospital ICU with acute necrotising pancreatitis. His condition deteriorated rapidly and he was put in an induced coma whilst his body fought against not only pancreatitis but also multi organ failure. Carl was being assisted with breathing (a tracheostomy) and having dialysis to support the organs that had failed.
All through this Julz, Matt, Bex and James and the wider family were by his side hoping and willing for him to pull through. Doctors warned that even when he did pull past all of this, it was a long road ahead in terms of recovery with perhaps even months in hospital. Carl has made some progress and after 32 days in ICU is now on a ward, with the next stage of his recovery starting. He is very weak but in reasonable spirits given the situation.

Carl and Julz are some of the most humblest of people I know and they go out of their way to help people where and when they can and I for one have been a recipient of their kindness and giving during a dark time in my own life.
As a friend I asked them permission to do this page as a way of paying it forward.
Use of funds
With huge stress on finances along with the impact that comes having a serious illness funds will be used to pay weekly expenses & any unforeseen costs that may arise as a direct result of Carl's illness, as they have no income after Julz had to cancel her contract in Oz.
Like many of us they have a mortgage & bills to pay, ongoing cost of going to & from the hospital, property & house maintenance, weekly living costs such as food, power & gas to cover until Julz can return to work.

Gone but never forgotten 29 October 2017
It is with huge sadness this update is to say Carl passed away around 5pm on Friday 27th October, surrounded by his family.
He fought for as long as he could but in the end it was just to much for his body.
Unfortunately this is a further impact on Julz and the family that have had to struggle financially since this journey began.
The cause is still very real and any assistance would be appreciated.
