This fluffball has been an absolute joy to our family's home and hearts. However her required surgery is beyond our financial reaches. Help!
Auckland
This is Tobi. She is a tabby cat and was found as part of a cat litter on the streets. About a year ago, we decided to take one of the kittens for adoption, and since then, Tobi has brought her warmth, excitement and joy into the house. However, in recent months she has been experiencing a heavy amount of seizures. Tobi has been diagnosed with "congenital portosystemic shunt", which has been the cause of her symptoms. The shunt is curable permanently via surgery and short-term medication. Unfortunately the only alternative to surgery is to place her on long-term medication and euthanise her when the toxins and seizures overwhelm her in couple of years. She's only 14 months old right now.
We have spent all our travel savings into treating Tobi's symptoms prior to her diagnosis and is currently facing financial hardship. The vet specialist at Carrington Road in Mt Albert estimated that it will take about $7,500 to treat Tobi of the shunt. We can't afford that at the moment and we need help from the community if we want to see this ball of joy to survive. Her upcoming surgery will provide her with a fresh start and free her from the periodic seizures. Life under this house would not be the same without our adopted fluffy family member.
We are Tobi's family and Tobi is our family
10 August Update: Tobi has passed away 10 August 2016
Tobi had her operation this morning in an attempt to permanently fix her condition, however at 5pm this afternoon, Tobi unfortunately passed away due to the unique complication of her condition. She was effectively kept alive by machines when the vet rang me and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go. I would like to sincerely thank all of you for your support and prayers for Tobi in the recent months, and I am forever changed by the warm generosity and well wishes I have received. It has been a long journey for myself, my families and my friends and I do not regret a single moment I have spent caring for Tobi over the past 1.5 years.
I have requested Tobi be cremated and her ashes be placed in a wooden box. I intend to bury it in our backyard where she had frolicked in the past.
