Wyatt's recovery

Hi, I’m Wyatt and I’m 12 years old. I was born at 25 weeks, weighing 960g and because of this I have Cerebral Palsy.

Nationwide

The type of Cerebral Palsy I have is spastic diplegia.

which means the muscles in my legs are very tight and makes walking hard and sometimes painful. I have to take pain killers everyday. I have had numerous surgeries in my life first one when I was 2wks old. When they started to feed me my milk my tummy blew up like a football. I was rushed into surgery as my bowel had ruptured. I started my life with an colostomy bag. When I was older and stronger it was lucky that it could be reversed. At week 1 I had a bleed in the brain and at week 2 it went to a grade 2 bleed. So they told my mum I would have Cerebral Palsy. They told my dad and mum that I would never walk or talk. When I was 8mths old I had to have laser treatment on my eyes to stop me from going blind. For the first 5 years of my life I had mickey feeding peg as I could not tolerate foods, it was hard to get my tiny body to grow. I was just about 3 when they decided to give me Botox injections in my legs to help loosen my muscles. After a few treatments I started walking with a walking frame. Then I started walking without one. Walking everyday takes a lot of effort and gives me a lot of pain. I can't do what all the other kids do. Which I would love too. But my body just can't do it. In 2012 I had major surgery on my left leg to straighten it back up, but sadly it did not work. On the 26th July 2017 I am going in for more surgery, my left hip is only 50% in the socket. So I have to go in and have a few things done to try and fix this. I have to have a de-rotation and varus osteotomy of the proximal femur with release of adductor longus and a transfer or rectus femoris to hamstrings, lenthening of the hamstrings, lengthening of the achillies tendon in the ankle. I will be completely non weight bearing for min of 6wks. I than have to have lot's of physio and learn to walk again. I am rather scared as I remember last surgery I was in a lot of pain. This is a big lot of stress on my dad and mum as we have no family support. My dad and mum have done everything to get me to where I am today and I am so lucky to have them. Sadly there is not much support around surgery and post surgery. My mum is taking 2 -3 weeks on leave from her job to help me get better. But sadly as my mum hasn't been working for a year she hardly has any leave to be paid for.So my mum is stressing about what are we going to do. How are we meant to pay our rent and bills, we don't get any government payments other than my once a fortnight disability payment which doesn't go far. My mum is a home support worker, so she goes ito the elderly home and helps them shower, makes their meals and then some are very unwell that are stuck in bed and wear adult pullups and she cleans them up so they are nice and clean. If there's nothing to do with them she will sit down and have a cuppa and chat as some of them are very lonely. My mum loves her job and puts her heart into it so I believe she deserves help for our family. So I am doing this page to try and get some funds to help our family in time of need. As mum will have to have a lot more time off work for me to recover and the school can not cater for me so my mum will have to home school me in the time it takes to recover. I would love to be able to make life easier for my parents as they have done so much for me.Every dollar that you donate will help us please. And if we could raise enough money to get my big brother over from Australia to help. He can't get approval from centrelink to leave Australia and keep his payments going to pay his rent in Australia while he comes over to NZ to help dad and mum with me post surgery

Use of funds

The funds will be used for rent, food, bills, travel expensive's just to help our family be able to live while my mum and dad can't work. As my mum will need to take so much time off work.
