Please help 5 year old Zahn and his family get through a difficult time after he was diagnosed with Acute T-ALL Lymphoblastic Leukaemia
Hawke's Bay
Zahn is the youngest member of a blended family. He has 3 older brothers and 1 sister and there is a new baby due in May. He turned 5 in November 2016 and on the 21st February this year he was diagnosed with Acute T-ALL Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. He was flown to Starship Hospital in Auckland where he is undergoing chemotherapy and other treatments.
I am Zahn's paternal grandmother and while extended family are helping as much as possible with the other children there have been and will be extra many expenses that will not be covered. The ages of the older children mean only the two younger boys would be able to attend the school and stay with their parents in Ronald McDonald House so all of the children have remained at home. The logistics of coping with all of this mean any work for Aaron is either part time, or full time but with someone there to mind the children. The whole family has been affected by Zahn's illness and he is missed by all.
Any monies raised would go towards the costs incurred by Zahn's Mum and Dad ( Aaron & Anna) and his siblings as they will need to commute between their home & local hospital in Hawkes Bay as well as Starship Hospital in Auckland. While away they will also have to manage the costs of running a home and living at Ronald McDonald House in Auckland and these costs will be on and off for the next three years.
Mischief or boredom, maybe both 10 June 2017
Just as well Zahn is such a good kid as he seems to put up with lots and not complain. Since his last trip to Starship he has been doing reasonably well with no adverse effects from his chemo. However he was admitted on Friday to hospital as his platelets were low and his haemoglobin borderline. He is neutropedic and although they have given him platelets and a blood top up again he has minimal neutrophils. The Drs have put him on antibiotics to help fight infection and he needs more neutrophils before he returns to Starship. Alan and I have decided our need to visit him in hospital is far less important than his need to get to the next stage of his treatment. He is chatty and good in himself and when we last visited him in hospital he was trying out new ways to use his toys as earrings, a nose ring or an eyepatch. Life must get boring after endless days lying in bed, playing with leggo or on your ipad. Oh and Starship has Sky where Hawkes Bay Hospital apparently only has freeview. Such deprivation !
Hi Kate, Thankyou for supporting Zahn and family. I know how much your family means to you especially those wee nephews of yours. We all appreciate your donation especially Aaron. Beth
Thankyou Jan for supporting Zahn and his family in so many ways. He is so accepting of everything that happens during his treatment but I think often children suffering from leukaemia accept their lot better than the family.
To all the LNC ladies thankyou so much for thinking of Zahn. To be included as a part of the LNC giving back to the community is an honour. As Zahn's grandmother I feel priviledged to have met you all and been a part of this group. Thankyou. Beth
Thankyou Ginny ( definitely one of the Hooters girls) for the best wishes and your donation. Every donation helps. Beth
The Thurston-Chambers family say thankyou to you for your donation, its much appreciated. Beth
