Help Bobbie the Chihuahua battle her cancer diagnosis and get some extra time with her loving family!
Christchurch, Canterbury
Bobbie had a rough start. Born in 2008 to a notorious “breeder”, Bobs was used for litters before being discarded. Her first owner took her in after being told Bobs was to be euthanized, due to the fact she couldn’t be bred any longer.
Bobs travelled to NZ Chihuahua Rescue in Christchurch on 30/12/2020. Bobbie was finally desexed (aged 12), vaccinated, microchipped, had a dental, her hips and spine X-rayed, she began physio, anti inflammatories and pain relief. Bobs also had a mammary lump removed and tested.
On 18/03/2021 Bobs was officially adopted by Ebony, Myles and their Chihuahua Delilah. Since then, Bobbie has come out of her shell and lived the life of a princess.
Unfortunately, she recently had a new mammary lump removed and tested. The results were Bobbie had stage 4 cancer, with progression signs. Without chemotherapy, Bobbie cannot survive.
Her owners have cleared their savings and are working day and night to raise money for Bobs treatments and upcoming surgeries. One chemo is close to $1k and it’ll be fortnightly for 8+ weeks. Bobbie also had a surgery and testing completed at $2k this past week.
Helping with the financial side of these treatments will relieve a little of the burden and help give Bobs her best chance. She is so strong, sweet and loving.
If there are surplus funds - a charity will be chosen by Ebony to receive the gift.
Last weeks' lymphnode testing costs ($2k), Chemo costs ($1k per fortnight), bloods, x-rays, ultrasound and any other diagnostic testing needed. pain relief and medications, surgical or procedure costs. Any surplus donated to Charity.
Bobbie update 22 May 2023
Unfortunately Bobbie has gone downhill very fast in the last 24 hours, since her breathing changed Thursday evening and we rushed her to the vets, she had a day visit where our vet said her trachea had collapsed. Her breathing has been laboured since but she’s been ok, wandering around, eating as normal, happy enough. Then yesterday (Sunday) at 2pm she had a seizure/syncope episode, it was terrifying and we rushed her to the after hours clinic, her breathing settled so we brought her home but then at 7pm she had another episode and went into respiratory distress, we managed to rush her to emergency very fast and she was put on oxygen right away and admitted overnight, they also did x-rays and noted a dense mass on one of her lungs, it’s hard to say what is causing her breathing difficulties, they said it could be infection, fluid build up in the lungs or worse-her tumours have spread. I transferred her form the after hours to our regular vet McMaster and Heal this morning, they’ve put her straight on oxygen and are monitoring her and doing more tests. We are extending her givealittle as it was due to end in a few days and we need all the help we can get right now. we’ve spent $5K just this week and are over the $42K mark total now and there’s no real answers or end in sight when it comes to her medical costs and continued care needed and we want to be able to give our sweet girl the best chance possible with the best medical care she can get to keep on fighting. Thankyou all again for donating and continuing to support our girl, she is so loved and we are so grateful and we are hoping for a positive outcome and will post an update as soon as we get some new information
