Unfortunately Bobbie has gone downhill very fast in the last 24 hours, since her breathing changed Thursday evening and we rushed her to the vets, she had a day visit where our vet said her trachea had collapsed. Her breathing has been laboured since but she’s been ok, wandering around, eating as normal, happy enough. Then yesterday (Sunday) at 2pm she had a seizure/syncope episode, it was terrifying and we rushed her to the after hours clinic, her breathing settled so we brought her home but then at 7pm she had another episode and went into respiratory distress, we managed to rush her to emergency very fast and she was put on oxygen right away and admitted overnight, they also did x-rays and noted a dense mass on one of her lungs, it’s hard to say what is causing her breathing difficulties, they said it could be infection, fluid build up in the lungs or worse-her tumours have spread. I transferred her form the after hours to our regular vet McMaster and Heal this morning, they’ve put her straight on oxygen and are monitoring her and doing more tests. We are extending her givealittle as it was due to end in a few days and we need all the help we can get right now. we’ve spent $5K just this week and are over the $42K mark total now and there’s no real answers or end in sight when it comes to her medical costs and continued care needed and we want to be able to give our sweet girl the best chance possible with the best medical care she can get to keep on fighting. Thankyou all again for donating and continuing to support our girl, she is so loved and we are so grateful and we are hoping for a positive outcome and will post an update as soon as we get some new information

    Hi friends of Bobbins,

I haven’t updated you all since Bobbie completed her last chemo treatment as it’s been a bit of a horrible time. A few weeks after Bobs final chemo, I found another lump right beneath where her original cancer was removed, she was due for her restaging of tests that week anyway-to see how her body and the cancer had reacted to chemo so they took the lump for biopsy under local anaesthetic and sent it for testing, unfortunately it came back as the same aggressive mammary carcinoma that she had removed. After discussing all of our options with our vet Kirsty last week, and having her consult with others We made the decision to get Bobs in for surgery asap-al she scheduled her in to remove that entire mammary chain (they have 5 pairs of mammary glands and it was jumping from mammary to mammary) ideally they wanted to remove both but weren’t sure if she had enough abdominal tissue but while Bobs was under anaesthetic on this past Monday the 15th of May, Kirsty was able to remove both sets and get her into recovery. It was a huge surgery, a lot of surrounding tissue was removed but Bobs is an absolute fighter, you won’t meet a stronger more amazing girl than our warrior Bobbie. She started recovering well, was in a full body bandage for compression and to absorb drainage from her wound, we got to bring her home and continued her care and medications and all was going well until last night around midnight I had to rush her to emergency as she wasn’t breathing properly, she was struggling and seemed weak. She flopped on her side when I put her in the car. They removed her bandage and compression and that seemed to settle her, almost like it was too tight and making it difficult for her lungs to expand properly. We brought her home and then at 4:30am she started coughing and gasping for air, so I rushed her there again, she settled shortly after arriving but her breathing was still laboured, they gave her a cough suppressant and pain meds and sent her home with us to transfer her to our main vets at 8am, so after not sleeping at all I got her to her vet Kirsty at McMaster and Heap where they took my concern very seriously and kept her in for monitoring for the day, they did x rays and gave her oxygen. They found she has a collapsed Trachea, part of her heart is enlarged and she has build up in her lungs. Her little body and back legs have been so swollen but have started to go down but she still has a raspy voice she’s weak, she’s in pain and she isn’t her bright bubbly self. She’s home with us and in her comfy safe space, she ate her favourite chicken dinner which is an awesome sign and she has had a couple of small naps but now we just have to monitor her very closely, she’s recovering from major major surgery, only 5 days out and then all of this added is just a lot for the precious little bean, and she deserves a break. I want to Thankyou each and everyone of you for donating, it means more than we could ever express, we have now tipped over the $40K mark that we’ve spent on Bobs vet visits, surgeries, chemotherapy treatments and hospital stays since September and literally every dollar has helped and continues to help our girl keep fighting! It really gives us the best possible chance of making sure we can give her the care and chance she deserves, and I know Bobbie would say Thankyou if she could but English isn’t her first language. Love to you all, I’ll keep you posted over the coming days/week on her progress, and Thankyou again

Love Ebony, Myles, Bobbie and Delilah xx

  • Bobbies final chemo!!!

      23 March 2023

Hi friends! It’s been a little while since I’ve posted an update, but I’m super excited to let you all know Bobbie had her very last chemo treatment today-Thursday the 23rd of March! It’s been 3 weeks since her last treatment and 12 weeks total since she’s been undergoing chemo. she’s been doing so well in the lead up to this one, she’s put on around 100 grams of weight and is 2.6kgs which is amazing, she is eating normally (roast lamb of course) we have only had to take her to the vet once in that time and her energy levels have been great! Besides an infection in her anal glands (which was being kept under control as a bonus side effect of all of her post- chemo meds, once they stopped some old infections came back-eye infections, anal glands and an ear infection flare up) but she is back on some antibiotics and we will hopefully get those back under control. She is down to 4 meds instead of the 11-14 she was on previously! She is quite tired after today (as is expected) and has lost her appetite but we are hoping she bounces back over the next few days. Now what’s the next step!? She will go through all of her original tests in 5 weeks time-that will include heart scan, ultrasounds, radiographs and blood tests. This will be another costly visit, which we are used to and are so grateful to everyone who has donated to our girl! She is so deserving of all this love, we have now spent $29-$30k on her total care since September 14th-her original visit for her mammary tumour. This has been a huge cost obviously, much more than originally anticipated because of multiple complications along the way, all our savings are gone, we’ve both been doing what we can to make sure we have been able to keep on top of costs and your amazing and generous donations have been more help than we could ever have hoped for and we’ll never be able to truly express our immense love and gratitude!!!

I bawled my eyes out when I picked Bobbins up from our wonderful vets today, McMaster and Heap and their whole team have been absolutely incredible in caring for her, they’ve shown her so much love and made us feel so safe leaving her with them in their care. Thankyou all again! I will update again once we know more in 5-6 weeks time! Keep sending your love to our girl! 💕

I haven’t posted an update recently so thought I’d jump on and let everyone know how Bobs is doing.

As you all know, besides battling stage 4 cancer and going through chemo, Bobs had emergency surgery to remove rocks that were causing an obstruction, while they were in there they found a mass on her spleen so they removed her spleen altogether and sent it away for tests which came back benign (thankfully). Recovery was slow going for Bobs, she was fitted with a feeding tube so we’ve been able to keep her weight stable and continue administering medications. She continued to improve and a few weeks after her surgery when she was in for her weekly check-up they ran her bloods and checked her biochemistry (weight, platelets, proteins, temp etc) and it was actually better than it had ever been, so our vet Kirsty was able to give Bobs her second round of chemotherapy. She continued to do well, and we were able to lower her feeding tube schedule and ended up not having to feed her through that at all as she got her appetite back and was eating completely normal for the first time in months, but then 3 days after chemo she had a seizure, it was so terrifying seeing her like that, she came out of it, but I got her to the vets right away, they ran some tests and her blood pressure was very high, so we just monitored her for the next 24hours and did a re-visit the next morning and her blood pressure returned to normal and she didn’t have another seizure. We’re unsure what the cause was, it’s very hard to say if it’s due to chemo, or completely unrelated. Bobs is back to being fed through her feeding tube, she has lost her appetite again, but is in amazing spirits and still just the most amazing little fighter, she fights everyday, she does zoomies, she launches herself off the lounge, she begs for attention (doesn’t have to beg too hard) in between come epic naps and occasional nibbles of chicken and we are just doing everything we can to look after her and make her feel safe and so loved for as long as possible. She has another vet appointment tomorrow (we have a weekly standing appt every Thursday but usually end up going 2-3 times a week) where she will have her bloods done again to see if she’s ready for her 3rd round of chemo but I have a feeling it will be postponed another week, fingers crossed everything comes back ok for our sweet girl. Enjoy the photo of Bobbie in her pram, I’m lucky enough to be able to take her to work on days me and Myles work the same hours , so that she’s never alone💕

I just wanted to again say Thankyou for your donations and showing so much kindness to our sweet girl Bobbie. After last weeks visit to the vet for stomach issues, we thought Bobbie was on the mend and ready for her second chemo treatment that was meant to be today. But she started showing signs of nausea again, licking, loss of appetite, discomfort, not sleeping and then that quickly turned into diarrhoea and vomiting so we took her to the vet yesterday after a rough night Tuesday. They kept her in all day on fluids, intravenous antibiotics and pain meds, then I picked her up in the evening to bring her home, but I knew something was off, she hadn’t bounced back like she usually would after having fluids and anti-nausea. So I took her to the after hours vet last night around 10pm where they gave her more pain meds. At this point she hadn’t eaten or slept in 24 hours, I took her home and she managed to sleep for 2 hours but then woke up and couldn’t lay down and kept licking the air, I got her to our vet this morning where they had told me to bring her back just for meds but I pressed to have an x ray, as I suspected an obstruction, and they did x rays and ultrasounds which showed she had rocks in her stomach, and intestines. They rushed her into surgery, where they removed a rock from her stomach and one from her small intestine, they also found a large mass on her spleen so they removed her spleen. it’s possible she has had these rocks in her for a long time and they have been causing intermittent stomach issues, the first time we took her to the vet for stomach issues was a month after adopting her, but they never found the cause and we have been treating with anti nausea and a few stints on fluids whenever any issues have come up, she’s been on a special renal diet and probiotics and She’s had many x rays and ultrasounds and it hasn’t come up, and we are stumped as to how she even ate them, we have to cut up her food smaller than a pea and soak her biscuits in hot water as she has no teeth and won’t eat anything larger than a pea or too hard, and she just isn’t the type of dog to eat foreign things. But she was very neglected and discarded before we got her so it’s possible it happened when she wasn’t being taken care of and starving. We just don’t know.

One of the rocks travelled into her intestine and caused an obstruction and was causing her so much pain she couldn’t eat or sleep. She made it through the surgery and recovery in a stable position, we picked her up from our vet at 6:45pm this evening to transfer her to the after hours clinic for overnight monitoring and to be kept on fluids and more pain meds. She has also been fitted with a feeding tube for the short term just to get her back to health and give her the nutrients she needs while she recovers. It was a huge and horrible few days not knowing if she was ok and if she’d make it through the surgery but we had to try and she was going downhill very fast. We are so relieved she is stable, and we will be picking her up in the morning to transfer her back to our vets to be kept on fluids again for the day, and we will just be playing it day by day so far. Your donations have helped so much! Last weeks appointments and stays in the hospital was over $1200, yesterday was $650 last nights after hours visit was $120 then todays surgery and tests was $3020, tonight’s hospital stay is around $600 and daily stays and fluids at our vets will be around $650 a day, so when we say every bit helps we really mean it! You have helped so much already, being able to get her the care she deserves, Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts!!

Just thought I’d post an update about sweet little Bobbie and We also wanted to say the biggest heartfelt THANKYOU to everyone who has donated, you don’t know how much this means to us and to Bobs, It’s already helped so much, especially with extra unexpected costs that have come up along the last few weeks since starting her treatment. We have had extra vet visits, extra medications etc that have added a few extra thousand to her already increasing bills and while we will do anything for her and make it work, having some of the stress taken off our shoulders is just incredible and we are forever grateful for the help and support for our sweet girl who just deserves to be loved and looked after as best as possible!

So Bobbie had her first chemo treatment on the 1st of December. She did really well, we monitored her at home closely in the days after and she didn’t suffer any side effects to be concerned about but she lost her appetite and became increasingly tired. She showed no interest in food-which is not like her, one of our nicknames for her is fatso, and also piglet, so that was concerning but apparently expected. She went in a week later to get blood tests to make sure everything was looking ok, and the results came back showing her white blood cells were lower than what Kirsty (our wonderful vet) would like but that was also to be expected and they would hopefully come back up in a weeks time ready for her second treatment on the 15th December. I took her in on the 15th and they did their routine blood test before treatment but Kirsty made the call that her white blood cells were still too low and that we would postpone treatment for another week to allow her body time to bring them back up, which is meant to be tomorrow (Thursday the 22nd December)

Bobs had started to get her appetite back and had a good few days this week eating normally, running around, barking at cats outside, growling at her sister Delilah for invading her personal space, just full of beans and she looked like she was on the up, but yesterday she took a turn and became nauseated, visibly in pain and uncomfortable and refused to eat or even drink water. I gave her some anti-nausea (she is on daily anti-nausea but has extra for when needed) but that didn’t seem to work as it usually does so I called our vets and they saw her within the hour. On a positive-her bloods came back this time that her white blood cells have come back BUT she is very dehydrated and there are signs of infection. They put her on fluids for a couple of hours, gave her some intravenous anti- nausea, and then I picked her up and brought her home for the evening. They kept the catheter in her leg so that I could bring her back to the vets first thing in the morning for more fluids if needed. She had some pain meds overnight and managed a few hours sleep cuddled up with Myles but became restless and nauseous again in the early hours, so I brought her back at 8:30am, and they called at 9:30am to update that she is back on fluids, anti-nausea and pain meds and will stay with them for the day. I will find out more when I pick her up and will update again. I can’t imagine she’ll be going through with her second treatment tomorrow after the last 2 days, it’d be too much for her little body, but I will update you all once I know what the next course of action will be. It’s so much on her little body but she is such a fighter, we are anxiously waiting to hear from Kirsty about when I can pick her up, all we want is her to feel better and be back to her regular little self. Thanks again to you all for being so kind, Bobbie deserves all this kindness more than anything after what she’s been through and you have directly helped with treatments, medications and making sure she’s seen and getting the best care she can!

All the love and gratitude-Ebony, Myles, Bobbie and Delilah xx
